Mayor testifies he "feared for his life."

In more than 6 hours of testimony the Mayor stated that he now locks his car doors (which he has never done before) because he feared the Chief putting something in his car, whether that be planting of evidence such as drugs or placing a bomb in his car. He testified that he has had many sleepless nights and worries for the safety of his family. All of this stems from a conversation the Mayor had with the Chief where the Chief was pleading with the Mayor to "work with him." The Chief felt the Mayor was not trying to work together and to make his point the Chief referred to the way a previous Chief was in dealing with Mayor and council. "He would throw them out of his office and tell them he had no bossed. Chief DeLaurentis told Andy Berenato that he better lock his doors and watch what shows up in his car." He told the Mayor, if he didn't want to work with him, he could be like the old Chief.
The Mayor then testified that as he left this meeting he turned to Town Clerk Susanne Oddo, who was also present at this meeting, and said "Did you hear that. he just threatened me." The Chief's lawyer then played a tape from depositions where Susanne denies that the Mayor ever said anything like that. When questioned about Susanne's statement the Mayor responded "Her testimony is inaccurate."
The Town lawyer then called April Boyer Maimone, Asst Town Clerk. In her testimony she refuted much of what the Mayor had said regarding a phone call the Chief made to the Mayor from the Town Clerk office. She testified that the Chief was not hollering as the Mayor claims, that the Chief never cursed as the Mayor claimed, that no one from the public was present in the office and she was not even sure if any other clerks were present. She said the Chief was obviously upset but just trying to make his point with the Mayor.
The next step in this process is set for Wednesday morning when a conference call will occur between the judge and counselors for both sides to determine whether the defense needs to present it's case or not.

This will all be over on Wednesday. The judge will find the Chief not guilty on all counts without the defense presenting it's case because they have already seen the defenses best witnesses in Rocky and the Mayor. They did more for the Chief's defense than any can with their testimony.

I guess the last person that posted was an idiot. Wednesday came and went and the case is continuing, according to this "reliable" website.\

I don't think anyone can believe anything we read online anymore.

The only accurate information seems to be on Hammonton's TV Channel 13.

Don't be so hard on people, remember this blog is where people get to express their OPINIONS about what is going on in our Town. That person believed that everything would be over on Wednesday and as it turns out they were wrong. No big deal. I'm sure that person still believes it should have been over on Wednesday and is disappointed that it isn't. None of us are lawyers, and we certainly know the Mayor isn't since he testified "I'm not a lawyer" at least 50 times on Monday, but I'm sure the judge and the lawyers know what they are doing and so the hearing continues.
You will note that things posted in the blogs are opinions, but facts are posted on the websites.
And as far as Channel 13, that gives no information about this hearing.

I guess since TV 13 mentions nothing about the hearing then it proves that RC and they mayor have no case against the chief.  It's all a vendetta.  You're an idiot to think it isn't.  EVERYBODY with a brain knows this case shouldn't be happening.  HF is just further embarrassing Hammonton.  I'm sick an tired having to defend Hammonton because of HF's stupidity.

The judge must think there is merit since he ruled that the hearing should continue on next week.

Go ahead and keep repeating that to yourself. If you say it enough times maybe you will convince yourself, but not us.

What is this about the Chief taking a gun used in the commission of a crime out of evidence and giving it to another person? That is a crime. It seems there is something to this Chief being out of control. And what is this that he thinks he is not an employee? Where does he think his paycheck comes from?

If you heard the testimony or read the papers you would know that the previous Chief gave the gun to a citizen even though it was supposed to be destroyed. Chief Ingemi retrieved the gun after that citizen told him about it.
As for not being an employee, Mr Barbone was only trying to bring out that he is an executive employee in a supervisory position.

The Mayor testified he was very concerned about this. Also, why is the Chief so against wearing his uniform? The Police Chief wearing his unform is something that is quite normal in other towns. Of course, the Cheif is an employee of the town.

I don't think the cheif is against wearing his uniform.  Everytime we have a town event, like a prade, he is always visible in his formal uniform.

However, if he is in the office doing paperwork, why does he have to wear a uniform?  That doesn't make sense.

Police chiefs of towns much larger than this, making a lot more money than Ingemi do not wear uniforms.

This is just a waste of taxpayer money to further a personal vendetta.

It is a disgrace!

I laugh at the idea that the chief is being charged in regards to his uniform when HF councilpersons don't dress professionally on council.  Professional dress is a suit and tie.  Polo shirts are just so unprofessional.  Council meetings should never be treated as dress down days.

The Chief was the only one trying to find common ground and get the Law & Order Committee to work together with him, for this he should be commended. The Mayor only heard what the Chief said as a threat instead of listening to what the Chief was asking him, "I'm trying to work with you, but I can be like the old Chief if you want me to." I want us to work together, so please don't make this an adverserial relationship.
And the Chief should also be commended for heroicly going in and retrieving an illegal gun that should never have been placed in the citizens hands in the first place. Remember, the gun was given to that citizen by the previous Chief, not Chief Ingemi. Once he found out about this situation he immediately took the steps neccessary to correct the situation, not knowing if this was a possible setup or ambush. He risked his own life to correct a wrong and ensure the safety of the people of Hammonton. Actions like these and over 35 years of dedicated and blemish free service to the citizens of Hammonton prove that he has earned the right to hold his position of Chief of Police and the respect that comes with that position.

Trying to work "with" the Mayor and the Law & Order Committee and risking his own life to correct a wrong, the Chief is a hero.

The fact that both the chief in his testimony and HF in there testimony quoted the chief as saying "I'm trying to work with you."  Shows the fact the chief was being pushed around and pleading with HF that he is trying to work with them.  It's just poor HF leadership to not listen to people.  This case just shows that you can't "Try to work with HF".  They are all about power and want full submission anything else will be seen as being subordinate.

Now Chief Ingemi is trying to blame the late Chief DeLaurentis for this? Why did he not handle this ears ago and why is there no Police report?

Do you think the former Chief wrote a police report detailing that he illegaly gave a gun to a citizen for protection???
Do you think anyine knew about this???
Chief Ingemi received a phone call telling him about the situation and he responded. Give him the credit due because there was no way to know if this call was true or a set up. He risked his life to make Hammonton a safer place to live.

Anyone know where John Mazzeo's wife was last night? I saw her husband at the Council Meeting, but I didn't see her.

I wonder where she was?
