Sending Districts unhappy with Hammonton

When Hammonton was first hit with the huge tuition paybacks due to Waterford and Folsom, the district tried to work out a plan that would spread the payments out over a period of time and ease the burden on the Hammonton taxpayer. At that time Waterford would not hear of it and wanted ALL of their money right away. It put Hammonton in a bad situation of making cuts and reducing services to the students of the district. Now that the tuition problem has been corrected and we will now charge the correct amount it puts the shoe on the other foot and the sending districts will no longer have the luxury of that money coming back to them. They will have to make up for the mistakes of the past that worked to their benefit for several years. Now they want us to spread these adjustments out over several years to ease the impact on their taxpayers. I'm sure our district would have been willing to work with them if they had been sympathetic in our time of need, but just as they benefitted and we suffered, now our district levels off and can start to put some programs back in place and they will have to pay their fair share.

Admin is right.  The Waterford people forced us to go back three years and pay them $1.4M in 2006-07.  Now the shoe is on the other foot as we have discovered that we really didn't owe them all that money.

The reality is that this new revenue is being invested in increased educational opportunities for the students.  So Waterford and Folsom kids will also benefit by the school finally being fixed after so many years of problems.

They have to pay their fair share.

Get your facts right.  First of all, each year Waterford and Folsom schools over pay Hammonton for their students.  At the end of the year when the state comes in an audits them the tution is then adjusted and subracted from the balance the next year.  And them in September the whole cycle starts all over again.  Come to a board meeting and ask for the truth.  The money that each school pays in tution is really a interest free loan until the state audits them.  Maybee Waterford and Folsom should ask for the interest each year and substract that from the tution!!!!!!

Get your facts right. The previous Business Administrator was not billing correctly and that is why we had to pay so much back to Waterford and Folsom. Now that it is corrected there is a big jump to the proper number. None of this would be an issue if the proper amount was being charged all along.

This is absolutely 100% correct.  If we'd been charging the correct numbers, the tuition would have gone up a little each year.  Instead, the tuition went down, which made no sense at all, especially when you look at the overall school spending.

Now, yes it is a big one year jump, but basically it is a correction back to the levels it should have been at all along.
