IT'S WORSE THAN WE THOUGHT, TOWN DEBT OVER $25 MILLION
Permalink

In further review of the Town audit the Mayor refers to when claiming that the debt went down, it has been discovered that there are expenditures that have been approved but have not had the notes or bonds issued yet. In other words we have started the work, but we have not put the debt on the books yet. The major item is the new Town Hall construction. The project has been authorized but we have not sold the bonds or notes yet. The other item is listed as Ordinance #6-06 Various Improvements. Click here to see this page from the audit. Since we will obviously have to pay these bills soon, these items will be added to the debt very shortly. Once you add these items to the debt estimate for 2007, the new debt figure for the Town of Hammonton is
$25,523,196.05.
This information is all part of the audit done by Brown & Company and is available for review in the Town Clerk's office in Town Hall.
If you remember, in the 9/26 edition of the Gazette, the Mayor claimed that the debt has gone down. He was using the figure as of 12/31/06. The Mayor had access to the same information but failed to report this information to the taxpayers of Hammonton who he is supposed to represent.
This is further evidence of the "borrow and spend" mentality of the current council. They love to shout about how they had a zero tax increase, however, the way they did it is to make the improvements now and make our children and grandchildren pay for it. We must stop these tactics now. Elect all 3 Democrats to fix this nightmare.

Jim, don't you think your numbers should add up the same way twice to have credibility?

Also, since the debt hit it's highest point in 2005 before HF came into office, don't you think the Republicans and Democrats bear some responsibility?

The one lacking credibility is the Mayor, He is the one who neglected to report the whole story to the people. As for my numbers, it took a little digging and some help from others to uncover this, that is why it took a little while for us to see it.

And you can't balme the highest debt on anyone else but the current administration now. This is definitely the highest debt ever experienced by the town.

So what you're telling me is that the Mayor knowingly told two newspapers in Town that the debt went down, all the while knowing that there was $7 million in unissued bonds for the Town Hall and "various improvements."

What's even scarier is that if they haven't sold those bonds yet, they must be taking out short term financing loans to pay the Construction Company throughout the year.  That means even more interest payments just to hide the bigger debt.

The real loser here is you and I, the Hammonton taxpayer.  If the Mayor cared about the Town, he would have made slight almost insignificant tax raises the last two years to help soften the blow of $7 million in loans.  Since he didn't, in 2008, we'll have to cover the whole thing!  Why wasn't he thinking of the taxpayers wallets when he built his new castle?

IF the town hall on 11th st was built it would be more debt if the admin numbers are right the increase due to the town hall and boyer ave.  So I say that's not bad but what major project does the old m and chave to show for the 19 mil they racked up plus the fact that they always had tax increases. so I say good job  hf and keep it up.

The point of this thread is that the public has been deceived about the true status of the debt.

It is funny that when HF took office and explained to everyone how the previous administration had run a deficit and had left huge debt, the all said "no, not true."  Then they finally admitted that yes, debt hit a record level in 2005, the year before HF took office.  Really?

Now they naysayers want to ignore the town's certified auditor.  They have posted several different numbers, none of which add up the same.  Really?

I guess the Democrats are saying that if they are elected they'll be raising taxes as Rich Jacobus said.

You get more ridiculous with each post.
HF never said anything about a huge debt and the bull they were feeding about the deficit was a spin just like the current one about the debt.
Yes, the debt hit a high in 2005, we read that in the audit report, now you need to read the rest of the report to see what this year brings.
The number keeps changing because it is just shocking to us that the Mayor failed to relay this information to the people of Hammonton. The further we go into the report the worse it gets.
And the Democrats are not saying they will raise taxes, quite the opposite.

On previous posts you have claimed that the debt hit record high levels at the end of 2005 and complained that while HF lowered it but only by a little.  Now you are complaining something different.  Shouldn't you be more consistent with your numbers?

Wouldn't it be better to use the data from the certified auditor for the town who explained the debt is going down?

He is using actual data.  Didn't you look at the scan of the pages from the audit?

Do you think Dolan Construction is building a Town Hall for us for free?  It's right in the audit you silly rabbit.

It's time to let the Dems show what they can do. We have had years of the Regular Republicans holding up projects, We have had two years of the self serving Hammonton First Republicans keeping taxes down by passing on huge debt to our kids, now let's put the Dems in there to show hoe their plans keep taxes in check and lower the debt.

I belevie that the next few years will be some of hammonotn's shinning moments.

What is being put off to the future is paying for all the debt you are putting this town into. Some of the debt will be paid off in 13 years, some of it will take 30 years to pay off. We have $25 million in debt and you are totally unconcerned. Do we want your party who is not even worried about all of the debt? NO. Do we want your party to continue adding to the debt to make themselves look good? NO.
We have to live within our means. There are a lot of things we need to get done in this town, but we need to do them without raising taxes and without pushing the debt any higher. We need to prioritize the future projects of the town and "pay as we go" so we don't make our children pay for the things we build for ourselves.

How do you know the school is going to have a zero tax increase next year. Hammonton First isn't trying to run the schools again are they?

The schools got a one time influx of $1,000,000 to make up for all the years of poor funding, but that was a one time shot and the schools won't have that next year. There is pending litigation. There are negotiations next year. Too many things are still going on to be able to make that prediction.

Or is this just more misleading statements to make yourselves look good again?

Is this promise as good as their $5.9 million promise for the entire town hall/community center project? We all see how well that promise was kept. I guess they will promise anything to get elected and then hope the voters forget when the next election rolls around.

The people of Hammonton demand better than GOOD.  Hammonton was a great place to live, work and play before Hammonton First came to existence. Once Hammonton First is swept again, we will further have our town back.  Hammonton First was a one issue party.  The party's over for them and we can all say.  It's All Great, now that the Hammonton First Corporation is shut down.

APRIL FOOLS DAY 2008

the new town hall will be ready on April 1st, & the joke is on the taxpayers

HAMMONTON NEWS story Oct. 31, 2007

HAMMONTON -- Concrete at the new Town Hall building currently under construction at the corner of Vine Street and Central Avenue has passed tests, according to Steve DiDonato, chairman of the hall's building committee. ...
... Meanwhile, construction on the three-story building has progressed. "Last week we had three or four days of rain but we are hoping for this week we will get the roof in pretty good shape. Next week we are hoping to be putting sheet rock up. Right now, we hope to be substantially complete by March 15 and doing some punch list items by April 1," DiDonato said.

That debt is already included in the $25 MILLION debt the Mayor ignores. Nice try, the Town Hall is priority and long ago we already statedthat that is the type of item, if any, that needs bonding.
HF spinning the truth again, just can't help themselves. Vote Democrat. Don't get fooled again!

The nice thing is that the town's already seen two years in a row of ZERO TAX INCREASES from Hammonton First.  In addition, this year the school had no tax increase.  2008 will be another great year!

The numbers you have don't even add up the same way twice.  The front webpage says $18M.  This says $25M.  How about saying more?

HF already proposed a budget for ZERO TAX INCREASE in 2008.  Looks like the Democrats don't know how to keep taxes down.  This is as easy vote.  HF to keep your taxes down!

The numbers do add up, we found that the debt was almost $19,000,000 and then as we looked into it further we found more debt the Mayor tried to hide from the public making the debt $25 MILLION.

We want to see the HF proposed budget for 2008. You keep saying it shows no tax increase, let's see it.

Jim, you are counting the same numbers several times.  Also, your ads are wrong.  When you call town hall, you can ask for bank balances if you'd like.  They will show you the adding mistake you made.

Also, the certified independent auditor showed debt went down.

HF has done two years in a row of no tax increases and has already explained they will have no tax increase is 2008.

You seem disappointed.  Don't you think that no tax increase is a good thing?

Don't waste your time Admin, they don't have a budget for 2008 done. We still don't know what the tax ratables will be for next years budget so how could they do one yet? This is just another promise they can't fullfil like the town Hall for $5.9 million. The community center is now just a senior center and they are looking for extra money to pay for it. There is less parking at the new town hall. They are not buying any new furniture like they promised, just moving the old stuff, which by the way sound s strange because how do you fill a 23,000 SF  building with furniture from a 8,500 SF building? The old town hall demolition is now an extra. The landscaping is now an extra. Relocation of the old town hall had to come out of other funds intended for a different use. They couldn't deliver on that promise and this new promise is just a ploy to try and get votes. We know it won't work. We won't get fooled again!

Call the town hall if you want data.  Last week's paper also had the ratables of the town listed on the front page.  There a couple more CO's that can be given in the next sixty days but it is small things.  It isn't like buildings get permits and pop out of the ground immediately.  However, those COs given do add to the ratables a little, which is a good thing for taxes.

I am confused.  You must agree that no tax increase is a good thing?  You're an okay guy Jim.  Why would you be so upset about no tax increase?

Hammonton First said they'd look at the books closely and watch every penny from year one.  They had zero tax increase two years in a row.  This year the school had no tax increase also.

I would think another year with no tax increase makes the vast majority of taxpayers happy.

Of course I agree that no tax increase is a good thing, it is the way in which we get there that worries me. If we get there by piling on more debt, then I disagree. If we get there by not providing necessary services to the taxpayers, I don't agree. That is why, since you have already done the budget and made the promise, I would like to see the budget to see how we get there. You are a reasonable guy, and I think if you were on the other side, you would appreciate seeing the same thing.

The Hammonton First slogan of It's All Good makes me think of the tobacco companies continuously telling us that Tobacco was healthy for us.  The Tobacco company lied and have been sued just like Hammonton First.  It took scientists who work for the Tobacco companies to bring those companies down and made them reveal the truth.  I hope that Hammonton First supporters make the Hammonton First Corporation tell the truth about their deceiving campaign ads and why they refuse to reveal their campaign finance reports.  How can we trust Hammonton First on any town finance reports and the town's multimillion dollar budgets if they can't reveal a simple report that's just several thousand dollars.

The Hammonton First camp continues to claim that they have a budget already put together for 2008 but they refuse to show it to us. What are they trying to hide. The Hammonton First party has now ignored the deadlines on filing requjired campaign reports twice, the law requires these reports, What are they hiding? Hammonton First has held up pretty pictures of other projects they propose to complete next year but when asked to show the plans on how to fund these projects, they refuse to show these plans, What are they hiding?

So much for "open and honest government". They are hiding everything they are doing. And this is only the tip of the iceberg.

Let's deal with one reality here.  The Mayor still has 1.2 milion left of the 4.2 million surplus of 2005.  You remember that surplus, the ones the Republicans and Anthony Falcone had built up?  Well, he's got just enough left to blow before you have to get your taxes raised.  So in reality, he's got another year he can show no new taxes.

The sad part is, had he just raised taxes 1 cent for three years in a row, the tax rate of 2009 wouldn't jump 10 cents.  It might only go up 7 cents.  But I guess its better to be hit with a MAC truck at 90mph than have a toy car roll over you.

HF was bad news from Day one with their backroom politics. But the question is:
Where were the Republicans when all of this debt was being created? They had three seats for almost a year. Now, suddenly, the GOP has gotten on its high horse with one week until the election. HF and the GOP do have one thing in common. They think Hammontonians are stupid.

The Dems have been exposing HF since the beginning. It's time for a change. Vote Democratic.

Is that the reason for the public name change fraud?

You will find what he is hiding by using a different name.

If you search using his new name "Jerry" you do not find the recent information about his problem in Vineland, NJ.

Is that the reason for the public name change fraud?

#5 do a Google search on:

Jerome Barberio vineland nj

You will find what he is hiding by using a different name.

If you search using his new name "Jerry" you do not find the recent information about his problem in Vineland, NJ.

Is his name Jerry, Jerome or some other name?  Jerry is my age and he wasn't in my class at St. Joe.  Any word from Hammonton Graduates.  Did Jerry go to school with you seeing how he's a lifelong resident of Hammonton?

hf shows new 2008 budget will have no tax increase
they have already done this two years in a row
school had no tax increase this year
the proof is in the tax bill and it hasn't gone up
dems and rep never stepped it up

It looks like both the Dems and Reps don't have a way to keep our taxes down. They just want to spend more money and tax us to death.

The Dems and Reps do have a way to keep our taxes down.  By defeating Hammonton First, we can stop increasing our debt.  We're going to be taxing our children to death with Hammonton First's fiscal irresponsibility. We're at the highest debt in Hammonton's history.

HF is the only party that came out with no tax increase for 2008. They also lowered the debt as the town's independent certified auditor explained.

The Democrats are screaming for more spending and hiring on the police and highway departments. That sure won't lower taxes.

The Reps already pushed for a tax increase this year so you know what will happen if they grab another seat on council.

Hammonton First when they finally reveal their campaign finance reports would have revealed that they have spent OVER QUARTER OF A MILLION DOLLARS for postions that pay NOTHING.  They don't want to make their campaign finance reports public because they are about the profits and not the people.
