A story in the 10/31 Hammonton News reports that Hammonton needs 8 more officers. Click here to read story. For several years now the Hammonton Democrats have been talking about public safety. We have stood up in council meetings, we have talked in the newspapers and have presented it on our website. We supported Chief Ingemi when he told council he needed more staff to fully protect the public. And now a report by the state Division of Criminal Justice also supports what Chief Ingemi has been saying. This must be a priority in order to insure that Hammonton stays a wonderful place to live and raise our children.

We were told by Hammonton First last year that the police are overpaid. They said after the Hammonton Gazette published the police department salaries. Many said that we should cut the police force despite the chief wanting to hire a few more men. The police chief was asking for less officers than the report mandates. The police chief was reasonable with the mayor but the mayor chose to seek Hammonton First style vendetta against Chief Ingemi and lost. Many proudly supported the chief. It's nice to see an outside source say what many have said all along that Chief Ingemi is a fine police officer and should be listened to and not be ignored. He's the professional just like many other town employees who have had to endure under an Hammonton First administration.
IN the report the chief himself said he does not need 8 men and thinks that new men should be brought in a little at a time. the report says we do not need three det. etc. read the whole report. the m and c have hired three new already meaning we only need5 more minus the det we need 4 more . they bought new cars and coumptuer equip. and got raises. so hf has helped out the dept. anyway just like the dems to jump right up and say we need it. how do you pay for it . in the words of bk show me the beef.
If M & C had reacted each year and had some foresight we wouldn't have to add so many at once. Now we have to play catch up. But the safety and security of the people of Hammonton should be a top priority. Obviously it is not important to you and your party.

I guess the Dems are pushing for a huge tax increase. HF came out with two years of no taxes and no they have proposed a 2008 budget which will again have no tax increase.
The Dems are pushing for responsible spending, keeping the debt in check, and no tax increase. We have already heard promises from HF that they couldn't keep. They won't have a chance to do it to us again in 2008.
How do the Dems plan to pay for the all the new police the want to hire? The Chief states in his article that it will cost $800,000 per year. That is about a 10 cent tax increase.
Why is it that the Hammonton First party already is attacking the Chief and saying that we can't afford to do what the Division of Criminal Justice says we need. HF does not care about the safety of the people of Hammonton.

HF has proposed another year with NO TAX INCREASE. It's all good!
HF has already kept taxes down two years in a row. The school didn't even have a tax increase this year.
By the way, you really need to update your website. The front page says the debt is $18M. No you say $25M. You need to get your numbers to not conflict with each other.
Your advertisements have errors to. Call the Town Hall and have them tell you the bank balances for all the accounts so you can see you have an adding mistake.
Call the auditor and he will tell you the same facts I have been told, nothing is counted twice. This was additional debt that wasn't acknowledged by the Mayor in his statement or in the ads you ran. Sorry you don't seem to be able to understand what is being said, but that's OK, the voters understand. $25 MILLION in debt is unacceptable.

No big deal, you just made a mistake.
It's all good!
Kick off your shoes and relax Jim. Tonight it trick or treat and the kids get to have fun. Now the parents can sleep well knowing there will be no tax increase. That is good for everyone, wouldn't you agree?
I don't think anyone can sleep good on the promise of HF. They couldn't keep the only promise they campaigned for in 2005, why would anyone expect anything different now?
But Thank You for your good thoughts for tonight. I will enjoy seeing mu kids out tonight, I love to see them happy. After that I will kick off my shoes and relax.

You're welcome. And by the way, whatever you were afraid the tax increase for 2008 might have been... that money is yours to do with as you wish. No tax increase for 2008. Everybody wins!

I'm for no tax increase but at what point to begin to bring down our debt. Let's make sure our Children WIN TOO. They are the future taxpayers of Hammonton. All that Hammonton First has done is to pass more debt to them.

The town's independent auditor, who is certfied by the state, got it right. Debt went down. Now we again will have no tax increase in 2008!

RE: State Division of Criminal Justices confirms what Dems have been saying all along.
The Mayor and Council have proven time and again they have no clue how a police department runs. You can't watch a crime drama and assume you are now a police officer. We need more men and the men that are already there need to see the advice from the report followed. They are working long hours and working around the crap being thrown at them from the "know it all" Mayor and Council. The Mayor has proven he has no clue what he's talking about with the new software being implemented. He has no clue what equipment an officer needs or may need. He has no clue. His head is planted firmed up his ass guarding his own wallet. It's not all good. It all sucks. They need to go for the safety of our town. Vote Democrat!
The town's independent auditor, who is certfied by the state, got it right. Debt went down. Now we again will have no tax increase in 2008!
You keep putting up the same statement and we have already agreed with you. Yes, the town's independent auditor, who is certified by the state, did get it right. The debt did go down as of 12/31/06. Now fast forward to today. Apparently you want to live in the past and praise yourselves for old news, but that same independent auditor in the same audit also shows that for 2007 the debt is now at $25 MILLION.
You also keep saying that you already have the budget for 2008 and it shows no tax increase, but for some reason the screen on your computer must not be showing the question that has been asked on this thread several times. If the budget is done then let us see it so we can see what you propose.
Ok... The Democrats should just fold their tent and leave.
I read hte ads today in the papers. "Harrassed a 30 year town employee who is a veteran"
Are you kidding me ???? Seriously ??? I'm supposed to vote for you guys because you'll let hte overpaid, overbenefitted, and underworked town employees do whatever they want ?
Ok... The Democrats should just fold their tent and leave.

Get a grip.
No, but we will stand up for a Dept Head who is understaffed, hard working, loyal, and committed to serving the people of this town to the best of his ability. He puts in extra hours, is always there when needed, and works hours and hours to insure the safety and well being of the citizens of our town. And we will not let certain council members continue their trend of personal vendettas against town employees. This must stop now and we must eliminate these people from council.

Oh, Hammonton will get a grip all right. In Town Council this year, we're getting a G.R.I.P. of things. Get Rid of Incumbent Politicians. Bye Bye ED.

Jim... be serious. Your telling me, this guy comes out at 2am during a snowstorm and doesnt get comp time or overtime or some kind of compensation.
OK, so the Democrats are advocating hiring a bunch more employees for several different departments. Doesn't that seem like all that added spending will cost the taxpayers a lot of money?
On the bright side, the Republicans agree with the Democrats. Jimmy Bertino motioned for a tax increase to spend more money this year. Jerry Vitalo also asked for extra taxes.
This election is coming down to the wire with a pretty clear choice.
For more town spending and the higher taxes that spending costs, vote Democrat or Republican.
For no tax increase in 2008, vote for Hammonton First.
At least you finally admit we need to hire 7 people.
But since you are just admitting that now, I guess that means the budget you are saying is already done for 2008 can't be right since this information came out after the budget was complete. You are making promises to the voters of Hammonton without having any information to back it up.
we already hired three of the seven. duh. lastly how do you pay for this you say hire hire hire but no new taxes. but then you acuse the dems and hf of lbeing liars. how the liar . ..

It's really just common sense. If the government wants to hire more people, it needs to pay them. The taxpayers then have to pay more taxes to cover the costs.
For more services, better police protection, controlled taxes and not making our children pay for it, Vote Democrat.
Speaking of the cops.... if the report says you're 1 guy heavy in the Detectives... then you really only need to hire 7 people. Not 8.
Anyone ? Or will be just be democrat about it and hire someone anyway,...
Why do you all read things so differently then the rest of us. Ever head of comprehension. I believe the number 8 they are talking about took into account the detective as well. Anyway you cut it you still need eight. They have hired three that still leaves five more to go. The Chief said he won't ask for all at once but another three next year and the remaining two the following year would be nice. Then there are the civilian position they also call for. Meaning dispatchers, secretaries and/or clerks. Why do you not want to beef up the police department? Is there no vanalism on your planet? In just recent weeks someone has decided to grope woman in the grocery stores and their home. There are pick pockets in the grocery stores. The town is expanding and there are all walks of life coming into it. We need more officers so we can have a proactive police department and not a reactive police department. Taxes should be increased each year whether they need to be or not. Small increases like 1% to keep things moving should just be status quo because **** happens and you have to be prepared for it.
Following that logic, then if the government wants to build a senior community center, it needs to pay for it. The taxpayers have to pay more taxes to cover the costs. If the government wants to build Phase 3 of Boyer Avenue recreational fields, it needs to pay for it. The taxpayers then have to pay more taxes to cover the costs. If the government wants to improve parking at the lake, it need to pay for it. The taxpayers then have to pay more taxes to cover the costs. If the government wants to build an amphitheater at the lake, it needs to pay for it. The taxpayers then have to pay more taxes to cover the costs. If the government wants to put furniture in the new town hall, it needs to pay for it. The taxpayers then have to pay more taxes to cover the costs. If the government wants to landscape around the new town hall, it needs to pay for it. The taxpayers then have to pay more taxes to cover the costs. If the government wants to improve any roads, it needs to pay for it. The taxpayers then have to pay more taxes to cover the costs. If the government wants to eliminaye any dangerous trees throughout the tow, it needs to pay for that. The taxpayers then have to pay more taxes to cover the costs.
So it looks like you plan a great deal of tax increases for next year. Or maybe you will admit that raising taxes isn't the only way to fund necessary government spending.
Good thing if the Democrats get elected Robin can make the motion to hire the new cops. Oh wait. Right. She can't.
That's right she would have to recuse herself from that particular vote just as the Mayor has had to do with the votes concerning his or his brothers properties, just like Rocky has had to do when it concerned any of his business ventures, just like Jim Bertino does when the Color Labs bills come up, just like any responsible councilperson will do when there is a conflict. Just because someone works for a living doesn't mean they can't serve this town.
So it looks like you plan a great deal of tax increases for next year. Or maybe you will admit that raising taxes isn't the only way to fund necessary government spending.
Three quarters of the above projects should only be considered if you can apply for and obtain grant money to do so. Police protection and public safety should paid for without question.
we already hired three of the seven. duh. lastly how do you pay for this you say hire hire hire but no new taxes. but then you acuse the dems and hf of lbeing liars. how the liar . ..
We don't have access to all of the information you have, but you better believe after discussions with the Chief we will work out a plan to get what the Chief needs worked into future budgets. It is too important to the safety of the residents of Hammonton and to maintaining the lifestyle we are accustomed to in this wonderfule town.
It's a shame you even question this because it indicates taht you would not put this into your already completed budget. Again, the taxpayers are not the most important thing to your party.

Do you realize that the Democrats are proposing a 7 cent tax increase just for this on line item?
You also want more money for other departments, yes? How much do you want there?

HAMMONTON FIRST 2008 BUDGET HAS NO TAX INCREASE!!!!!!!
What's the over under on the HF pig roast on Sunday? I have 37 people including the pig. Is it also true that HF attacked the Chief again the day of the Halloween parade? How stupid are these people?
Why are you folks so upset. No tax increases are a good thing.
Rich Jacobus wrote supporting the Democrats and discussed a 25% tax increase. Is that really what the Democrats want to vote in? That would kill the taxpayers. Why would you want to spend all that money?
We don't want to spend that money, he was pointing out that you are causing these kinds of problems with your "borrow and spend" way of financing everything you are doing.
The Democrats want to stop passing all of this debt on to our kids. We need to start paying for things as we do them. We can keep maxing out our "credit cards" and expect to get ourselves out of this debt.
And we are not "upset". We are just asking to see the budget you are proposing to see how you came up with your claims. If it is that good, why won't you show it to us? We might agree with you and support your budget. Just show the public the numbers.
What's the over under on the HF pig roast on Sunday? I have 37 people including the pig. Is it also true that HF attacked the Chief again the day of the Halloween parade? How stupid are these people?
I heard that too but I heard it was the Mayor and his brother Mr. Building.
I too think a wonderful thing is coming ahead. We have 3 great choices for Town Council. There's a lot of enthusiasm for Ammirato, Falcone, and Ripa. With the growth and support for the Democratic party in Hammonton, Hammonton will once again be a great place to live, work and play.
1. The recent report illustrates what the Dems have been saying all along. HF has been gutting services. Does anyone remember the leaves piling up in the street because there was no funding for the highway department?
2. I would like to see these grant applications. Who are the local administrators of the grants? Petrongolo, Barberio, etc? They do not have the qualifications to administer the grants. No wonder we are getting into trouble with this stuff.
OK, so the Democrats are advocating hiring a bunch more employees for several different departments. Doesn't that seem like all that added spending will cost the taxpayers a lot of money?

\ Vote Democrat! They have the courage to spend more money and raise taxes!
Vote Democrat! They have the courage to stand up to the present council and stop the "borrow and spend" policy which is putting this town further and further in debt!!!!
1. Hammonton First- Platform: Harass employees, Embarass the town, Increase Debt, Implement spending policies that WILL raise taxes in years to come, appoint incompetents to manage grants so we can get into trouble.
2. Republicans-Platform: Fall asleep at the switch and allow HF to take over. Fall asleep at the switch while HF does what it does best: ruin the town. Run an inept campaign as if people will take them seriously.
3. Democrats-Platform: Reduce Debt, Improve services WITHOUT creating waste, implement smart growth, Improve local roads.
The choice is clear vote Democratic.
PS. I am glad HF is so rich that they can spend all day on the blog. HF, learn what real work is; you may have to actually do it some day. Your families will eventually run out of cash and you can only cheat the taxpayers until Jan. 1!!!
Looks like the Dems are the preverbial blind squrrels...
Barberio probably had a problem at work, seeing he is a "hortocultrist by trade"
See that works with the Hammonton First Pinko-Facist Pigs...
Just say you run a nursey. Like 15 other people in Hammonton. I run a nursey. How hard is that ????
Meanwhile..... MacLane what are we doing. Blocking people's IP address so they cant post just before the election. That's very Hammonton First of you.
****************
By the way... try this on for size??? Maybe the Hammonton First Facists are bonding Hammonton into oblivion becuase they want to buy up said bonds to investment their billions that havent been spent on bellevue ave yet ??

People pay fines here and there but Jerry had an OUTSTANDING Warrant. Was he evading the law? That's a Hammonton First trait especially when it comes to reporting campaign finance reports.

I don't see anyone other than HF committing to keeping our taxes at zero. They already did this two years in a row. Even the school was at zero this year. The other parties just complain they want to hire more people and spend more money.

Hammonton First's way of keeping taxes at zero is to increase the debt. At some point, that debt has to be paid.
Taxes can be kept down and the debt can be reduced. It is not easy, but it can be done. Hammonton First takes the easy way out by using their "borrow and spend" tactics. They just pass on the cost s to our children to make themselves look good today. The Democrats, on the other hand, will work much harder than the present council to pay down the debt and control taxes at the same time.
HF is the only group that came out with no tax increase for 2008. They also lowered the debt as the town's independent certified auditor explained.
The Dems sent a letter bashing HF, but said nothing about how they'd keep taxes down. They are demanding more spending for a number of items so that won't lower taxes. In addition, Anthony Falcone is one of the guys who voted to run up the record debt of 2005.
The Reps already had Jimmy Bertino motion for a tax increase, so you know where they stand.

Interesting how you weren't able to disprove the statements the Democrats in regards to the wrongs of Hammonton First. You call it bashing, we call telling the public the truth. It were wrong then Hammonton First would make a counter statement in the paper or vocally. Since everything the Democrats have been saying is true then it can't be countered. Lies can be countered. The truth can not. This election Hammonton won't get fooled again.
First of all Lance Schiernbeck, who I'm sure you're all referring to, has been with the Hammonton Highway Department. He has worked his way up from behind the trash truck. He obtained a college degree on his own. He's not some spoiled daddy's or momma's boy who had to have one of his parent get him his town job. And yes, smart ass, he's out all night, sometimes 24 hours in row, barely eating, without compensation over and above his contracted salary. When you're management, you don't get overtime or comp time, unless you're Louie Rodio, who has such a demanding, not , job. One of the fringe benefits Lance does get is the opportunity to be undermined by the mayor, HF council memebers and even his own chairperson, Anthony Marino.
Hammonton First is screaming that even though the State Division of Criminal Justice says we need more police officers to keep our town and our residents safe, they refuse to even look at the idea. The Democrats made a statement on this blog that we want to explore all of the options available to us in order to work towards the goals the professionals have set. There are many ways to do this without raising taxes, but it will take a lot of hard work. The Democrats are ready, willing and able to get it done. Hammonton First refuses to even consider the safety of the people they are supposed to serve. Again, they are only looking out for themselves. Well it's time for the people of Hammonton to think only about themselves. Vote for the team that puts YOU first. Vote Row "A" All the Way. Vote Ammirato, Falcone, Ripa. Don't Get Fooled Again!!!
you can not build a new town hall without increasing debt. that is the only increase I see stop the lies. vote hf all three
Have Hammonton First show us how they are going to implement the plan the Department of Criminal Justice set forth for our police department and public safety and maybe they will get our votes. Show us right now in writing how you are going to do it, that you are going to do it immediately and you are going to stop bashing the Police Department and that means all members of it and maybe you'll get some votes from them. But all you care about is that stupid building that doesn't fit the lot and what you can do for yourselves to profit in the process. Yes Main Street Hammonton looks nice Hammonton is bigger than the Main drag and we "regular folk" not in your inner circle would like to see the rest of the town expanded and beautified as well. You have for two years now forgotten we "regular folk" and we are tired of it and you.
hey a plan hmmmm. 5 new cops cars and 3 cops in ther last year wow. way to go hf vote all three hf .
That's not a plan that's a bandage and one of the three new officers still have to get through the academy before we can call him a cop. You still need more officers. And more than like the cars were purchased with money brought in from the details and grant money so stop stalling and give the town people a real plan and structure like the report is calling for. Those that made the report are actual law enforcement experts not someone that watched NYPD Blue and thinks they know how to run a police department. WE "the regular folk" are still waiting for your plan. Times ticking if you want our votes.
Three jerks. What's wrong with you people? I hope you enjoy your huge tax increase because it's coming.
The Working Class Family lost again this election. We have been fooled again.
So when are you sacks going to actually figure out how a police department is run? When you are going to actually show some respect for our town police officers and the jobs they do for us every day. When are you actually going to form a committee with police officers on it to help implement the plan set forth by law enforcement professionals. You don't know what it takes and they do. You don't listen to their needs. You don't listen. So you want to do right by this town - form a committee with seasoned, experienced, police officers on it and find out what they need to make the department be proactive. Notice I said police officers; the actual people that do the job. Show them the respect you think you deserve. Start showing this town the respect we deserve. Every person not just the ones you believe are worthy.
