Why won't Council recognize the Airport Committee?

In the agenda for the upcoming 11/19 meeting, Town Council is taking official action to recognize the Hammonton Lake Water Quality Advisory Committee by an official ordinance.

AN ORDINANCE OF THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF HAMMONTON,COUNTY OF ATLANTIC, STATE OF NEW JERSEYAmending Ordinance 12-2007Formally Recognizing the Hammonton LakeWater Quality Advisory Committee
WHEREAS, the Mayor and Council desire to amend Ordinance 12, 2007; and
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Ordinance 12, 2007, be amended as follows:
The Committee shall be comprised of 7 members and 2 alternates as follows and all appointments shall  be made by the Mayor with confirmation of Council and officially begin 1/1/08:
1 - Class I Members 4 year terms
1 Class II Members 3 year terms
3 Class III Members 2 year terms
1 member shall be a representative of Parks Commission 1 year term
1 member shall be a representative of Environmental Commission 1 year term
Alternate #1 4 year term
Alternate #2 3 year term
The Chairperson and Vice Chairperson will be appointed by the committee.
The Recreation Supervisor shall attend all meetings.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all ordinances or parts of ordinances which are inconsistent with this Ordinance are, to the extent of such inconsistency, hereby repealed.

What we don't understand is why isn't the same thing occurring for the Airport Committee. The Mayor made a statement back in the spring that this action would be taken hopefully in June and yet here we are in November and that committee is still not an official committee. The people who have been serving on this "unofficial" committee have been volunteers for many years and have kept our airport going and growing. Is this meant to be a slap in the face to these volunteers?
The people who have been running our airport are all very qualified and dedicated people and deserve to be recognized by council at this same meeting.

How about a committee to help Mayor and Council get their heads out of their butts and join the rest of us in the real world?

1. Is it possible to list on this blog, the official vs. the ad hoc committees? I fear more that we are delegating too much authority to Ad Hoc Committees like the Mayor's Action team. They are negotiating grants on behalf of the town and do not have the authority to do so.

2. What are the legal differences between the airport committee and the Mayor's Airport Advocate? Where does the Airport administrator fit into this equation?

HF, before you attack Jim Maclane for even creating this post, could you shed light on some of these topics? You must have time on your hands since you did not answer the questions from the other posting about how you will not raise taxes. In case you forgot, here are those questions too:

"Since you will not cut deparments, how will you compensate for increased operational costs from various projects and increased interest payments without raising taxes?"

"Will you re-assess?"

That's what I think will happen.  Our homes will be re-accessed.  That's the direction we'll be going if Hammonton First continues to borrow, borrow, borrow. Soon we'll have to put our homes for sale and guess who are the only ones who could afford to buy our land and homes.  The very people who promised no tax increase.

I think they're going to reaccess homes that didn't have a Hammonton First sign.

I know that after last year's election, HF sent out the code enforcement officer to the homes of vocal HF opposers!

You'd think HF would want another committee to draw funds from for their dream of changing our Hammonton to Haddonfield.  The more money this airport committee gets in grants, the more money for their downtown properties or get used to reduce the town hall construction costs.

Here is something for the blogosphere to research.

The historical committee got $10K to pay consultants to survey historical homes on Bellevue. Now, having a home on the historical register is a tax break. So basically, the town is paying for certain citizens to get a tax break while the rest of us have to pay for our own sidewalks (which everyone uses).

Lets take it a step further.
A big HF backer who is on the historical committee and owns a house on Bellevue.

No matter what there is no such thing as FREE MONEY. We taxpayers pay for all grants and projects. Nothing is free. This $10,000 will come from our pockets just like the grant money. We need to control spending in Hammonton and the State but not the cuts weve seeen. Why are we paying for this? When some of us need repairs of our own, were wasting tax dollars on someone elses property. I thought part of being a homeowner was the upkeep of your house , at your expense , not our tax money. How the hell do they get away with this stuff ? Im sure there are numerous people who would love to receive taxpayer moneyto re-do their houses.

At the 11/19 meeting Mayor & Counil indicated that they are in fact looking into making the airport committee an official town recognized committee as early as next meeting. The next meeting is 12/17.
