Hammonton Airport may get an upgrade.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation under it's State Airport System Plan has suggested that Hammonton Airport receive an upgrade that could expand it's use. This could bring additional funding to our airport as well as an expansion in the funding we have been receiving from the Federal Aviation Administration for several years. Click here to see the story from the Atlantic City Press. These upgrades would help our Airport become more of a destination, bringing in more income and alowing us to develop an even better facility without using taxpayer funds. The Airport could become a recurring source of income for the Town, allowing for lower taxes.
While this is good news for the town of Hammonton, we also must be careful as to what the increased traffic will do to our rural town. What type of aircraft would begin using our facility and what impact would that have on our Town.

We continue to wonder why the Airport Committee has not yet been recognized as an official committee of the Town of Hammonton. We ask the Mayor that with this possible upgrade in status, we need the Airport Committee now more than ever. We also feel the committee should be expanded to have more than just aviation experienced people serving on the committee. This upgrade will have more than just aeronautical effects on our town and additional input will be needed.
This is good news to our Town. We need to carefully review all aspects of this plan. But we do not need to turn it into a beuracratic nightmare with delay after delay. We have already seen that in our Town and we know what that brought us. Let's gather more information and move forward with the proper amount of caution.

NBC40 did a story on the upgrade in status for Hammonton airport. While they did most of their story on the Woodbine airport, the same things hold true for the Hammonton Airport. We must move cautiously but quickly, we don't want to lose out on the possibilities here to another airport like Woodbine.

This is really nice. I remember when the Mayor first started talking about upgrading the airport. They bashed him and yelled about "Blueberry One." Isn't it nice that the town is going to benefit as the Admin points out?

How many Democrats on the airport committee to bring unity??????  I thought it was the volunteers at the airport who brought up the issue of upgrades not the mayor.  The mayor mainly made statements of hoping certain Scientoligists come to Hammonton utilizing the airport.
