In compiling New Jersey Monthlys 2007 Top Towns list, researchers at Monmouth Universitys Polling Institute considered eight categories best representing the quality of life in New Jerseys 566 municipalities: property taxes, home values, population growth, land development, employment, crime rate, school performance, and proximity to services.
To level the playing field, household income was not considered, and home values were measured by their rate of increase over five years rather than by current prices. To compare land development, towns with relatively slower growth and more open space were rated more favorably. Towns with lower unemployment and crime rates also scored higher, as did those closer to hospitals.
A statistical standardization technique was used to rank all 566 municipalities according to the eight indicators; an average of the eight numerical values for each municipality determined its final rank.
Hammonton Rank - 277 2006 Population - 13,572 00-06 Population Growth - 7.7% 2007 Median Home Sales Price - $226,800 Change in Home Price 00-07 - 139% 2007 Median Property Taxes - $3,906 Open Space Land % - 33% 05-06 ASK Average - 88 05-06 GEPA Average - 82 05-06 HSPA Average - 83 06 Crime Rate Index - 16.8 06 Unemployment % - 7.2 Hospitals within 10 miles - 2 Theater within 10 miles - No

This is the worst we as a town have ever done. All this thanks to HF and their cronies. This must change, its' all good, yeah right. Soon they will tax you if you go to the bathroom more than twice a day. Hf taxes everthing they don't own. Its' just great.

RE: Hammonton ranks 277th Best Place to Live in NJ
According to HF mentality, It's all good. At least we're in the top half they'd say. Too bad we settle for less lately the last couple of years in Hammonton. Hammonton could be so much better.
New Jerseys worst magazine, NewNorth Jersey Monthly, put out its dumb list ranking Jerseys 500+ municipalities, and apparently most of them are better than Hammonton.
If the editors of NJM happen by this blog: you can find the other half of the state by driving south of Princeton on 206. Youll know youre in South Jersey when people stop trying to murder, rape, and carjack you.
Were sorry that our meadowlands arent giant fiery superfund landfills.
Hammontons landscape lacks the apocalyptic overtones of North Arlington and Lyndhurst, and we paid for it.
By the way NJM, we didnt become the most Italian City in America by having an HBO Mafia melodrama filmed here. In your magazine, authenticity is a minus.
It must hurt to know the most widely regarded episode of The Sopranos takes place on our half of the state, doesnt it(yes, we know it was filmed in New York)?
You know, on second thought, take us off your list next year. If being the blueberry capital of the world, the most Italian-American city in the US, and home of the longest running Catholic festival in America isnt good enough for you, then leave us out of your rag all together.

There is great progress in our town. Even the school is back on track. Their finance chairman and business adminsitrator delivered another year of no tax increases. Good job to Steve DiDonato and Barbara Prettyman! Its all good!
How can the school budget go from 39 million to 43 million without a tax increase. Are they playing with numbers again? 4 million more in one year? Where is all this money going? Are my taxes going down this year? I hope this is not another slick budget with a big tax increase down the road. 4 million more in one year....WOW

Hammonton is paving the way to the future!
Yes, he did it all by himself . The state gave the school 2 million more
and a additional 1 million last year, I guess next they will make the blind see. Its' all good if you get the money.

Did you see the new grants the town got? HF is getting more grants than the R's and D's ever did. And the school is charging Waterford a lot more for tuition. That really helps the Hammonton taxpayers. It's all GREAT!
Are the Republicans running a primary this year? Rumor is that they have 6 people who want to run this year.
Who cares? Now that Steve DiDonato and Barbara Prettyman rolled out the school budget with no tax increase again and the town has already promised a zero increase, the Republicans have no chance. The taxpayers will be thrilled with the new school budget. Our town is becoming the BEST town in New Jersey!

You used the right word "rolled" out. Explain how the budget is up 4 million and they say its' all good. What kind of math is this? Its' called smoke and mirrors also known as tricks for treats. now you see it now you don't.There are problems on the horizon, but its all good.Just keep say it, maybe you to will believe it.

Hammonton First already raised our taxes this year by pushing the legislation to have taxpayers charged for emergency services.
the only hope to no tax increase is the Republicans at this point.
It is amazing that the Republicans are attacking are fine firemen's request to be reimbursed from insurance companies to help pay for the new fire truck they need. The Republicans obviously feel strongly that they should raise taxes to pay for the truck instead.

If HF is so great, why didn't we get the fire truck already? They have been around with their zero for zero for how long now? Is the truck ordered yet? It should have been ordered with a pre-emission motor. According to Torrissi, if he was on council we would already be getting a first class fire truck with the right specs.
I am glad Hammonton First is lowering the town's debt by working with great ideas like this from the firemen. The Republicans and Democrats have to stop their wild credit card spending. They have bankrupted the state. They also drove Hammonton to the highest debt in it's history. All they would do was borrow, tax and spend. Now we have zero tax increases at both the school and town every year. It's all good!
The highest amount of debt in Hammonton's history belongs to Hammonton First. The current year we have seen our debt go to that level. This information comes from the town accountant and town auditor. The current trend of credit card spending needs to come to an end. We can't use our credit card spending to falsely keep the taxes down. It's all good, until the bills come due!!!

Now, now... you know your data has a $6M mistake. Why don't you just use the independent auditor's certified report? The debt in Hammonton is going down. It's all good.
Not true, the corrected data given to me by the Town shows the debt rising to it's highest level in history in 2007. The report you refer to covers the period ending 12/31/06, the data I am refering to is current data.
If the debt figure is different than what we have been told, then we either have a problem with our Town accountant, or the town auditor. They are the ones that have provided the documentation that the debt has risen this year. It'll all be bad when the bills come due!!

So you are claiming the town's auditor gave you an answer before he even started the town's audit report? Really? I think I will wait to see until they actually file their reports.

You are probably right. The Republicans would have raised taxes to buy a new truck right away rather than protecting the taxpayers.
