The Hammonton Democratic Club announced at its club meeting on June 10 the three winners of the club-sponsored raffle held recently at the St. Anthony's of Padua Church barbecue.
The winners were Kyle Cantz, Penny Nicola and Francine Putney.
Each winner received a $20 gift certificate for gas.
"It is always a great feeling when an organization can sponsor something fun like this raffle," said Hammonton Democratic Club President Sam Mento. "However, we chose to raffle off gas gift certificates to illustrate the high cost of living that citizens are facing. It is imperative that we as a society look for solutions to sky-rocketing energy and food costs."
"Our candidates, Michael (Perrotta), Jim (MacLane) and Anthony (Falcone), realize that we cannot realize the promise of the future if the cost of living in this town becomes unaffordable for the hard-working middle-class of the community. This is the reason why our candidates will keep taxes low the right way," Mento said.
The Democrats will keep taxes low without cutting essential services like the Shade Tree Commission or the Highway Department, Mento said.
"Reductions in these services become 'phantom' taxes since citizens must pay for the missing services. In order to accomplish this task, we must attract large, sustainable businesses to Hammonton. These businesses will increase our tax-base and provide high-paying jobs to Hammontonians without burdening our school system. Michael, Jim and Anthony understand that attracting such global companies must be a continuous process based on thoughtful planning and wise policy decisions," Mento said.
"These are the type of 'win-win' results Hammonton can expect from Democratic representation on Town Council. Our candidates represent the pragmatic solutions and tri-partisan leadership that will bring the Promise of the Future to all of Hammonton," Mento said.
The Hammonton Democrats hold their monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at the Hammonton Library. Everyone is welcome to attend.

My road isn't done. All I hear is that there's no money yet I see the same areas getting done my whole life except my street. No money, no money, yet my services get cut and reduced. We need new jobs in Hammonton, not just filling in strip malls owned by a few elite in town.

HF lost my vote when they refused to file their campaign finance report for many months. Plus the fact they spent $150,000 the last 3 years for a position that pays nothing.
Why don't you put up a poll and ask the Hammonton residents what should be done with the extra $2,500,000 dollars the town received from SJ GAS? This is a one time sale of a town asset that will only help in the short term with a few budgets. Should this extra $2,500,000 be used the following:
A) Lower the local tax bill. B) Reduce the high level of town debt (new school & town hall). C) Hire more police. D) Be spent on new town sponsored programs.
I would vote to reduce the town debt the future generations will have to pay.

Couldn't some of that remaining money go towards the Stockton deal? It's ashame we are going to have to pass on it. That unlike the new Town hall would be something to be proud of for our Town.

The Republicans are pushing hard against having Stockton come to Hammonton. It would be nice to hear how the Democrats feel about this educational opportunity for our students.
Why don't people realize that Hammontonians want NO NEW TAXES. It was suggested by the mayor that we might consider making Kessler a Municipal Hospital that meant more taxes. Now people want to make sure that NO ONE even considers using taxpayer money to have Stockton in town. Yes to Stockton, but NO NO NO NO NO to footing the bill for Stockton to come in. It's That Simple. If Stockton comes in and it doesn't cost taxpayers anything then that's FABULOUS, BRING THEM IN. Also no fancy moving money from one pocket to another.
