The Hammonton Democratic Club has issued its position on the question of Stockton coming to Hammonton. Sam Mento, President of the Hammonton Democrats, stated,
The Hammonton Democrats take their role of recommending policy to local government seriously. The issue of bringing Stockton to Hammonton offers great opportunity but also raises questions. Our Board of Education displayed great wisdom in choosing to move carefully and deliberately on this issue. After carefully listening to the debate of bringing Stockton College to Hammonton, the Hammonton Democrats strongly endorse the idea of having Stockton come to Hammonton but use pre-existing Hammonton school facilities rather than use taxpayer dollars to purchase or construct a new facility. Our recommendation allows for teachers, students and the community to utilize everything Stockton can offer without the cost of building new facilities.
Town Council Candidate Michael Perrotta explained, The idea of bringing Stockton is a great idea. The addition of an institution of higher learning benefits everyone. A strong education is the key to being competitive in the 21st century global economy. On a more practical and immediate level, individuals wishing to take college classes will not have to drive very far.
Candidate Jim MacLane agreed. MacLane said, Mike is right. Higher education is the key to reaching the Promise of the Future. However, as with any good idea, we must implement it with the taxpayers in mind. Therefore, the Hammonton Democrats feel that Stockton should use already existing educational facilities such as the High School or the Middle School rather than Hammonton paying to purchase a new site. Our compromise would provide a convenient solution without having the taxpayers of Hammonton spend millions of dollars on a new structure.
Council Candidate Anthony Falcone added, We have just opened the Town Hall. I would be reluctant to start another major taxpayer-sponsored construction project now especially when there are other options to explore. The compromise that we are recommending represents a win-win solution for teachers, students and the taxpayer.
If any citizen has an opinion on the Democrats Stockton Compromise or any other issue, email it to the Hammonton Democrats at info@hammontondems.org or come to Democratic Club Meeting. The Hammonton Democrats meet the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7:30 pm at the Hammonton Library.
The Democrats hit the nail on the head with the Stockton issue. I agree, this will be a win-win for all invovled. Good Job helping out the local government while not even in office.
I think the slow and steady approach is the best way to do things. We need to see if this even works for us as a community.i have heard more spins than i wish to even think about but remain concerned as to the general out to the entire town
If the school has the extra room to let a college come in during the day so that our seniors can take classes and still participate in extra curricular activities, why do the taxpayers need to spend another $15M?
Hey, HF just wants to spend money to fix up buildings in the down town. The college should ask the school for land and build a site there, that is the education center of town.I am sure that it can happen at the school, I'm sure there are open minded people in town that would support that idea. The towns people need to know more about this, what exactly does it cost? how many grants can the town get? who will own the building?are there other colleges interested in Hammonton? maybe we should shop around and get the best deal for Hammonton . maybe council should update the citizens on what they have done so far with securing grants? Or is this just another election ploy by the 1sters? So many questions so few answers, just a major concern for the taxpayer if you ask me.
I don't know of one single person who is against Stockton coming in. Everyone I know is against us taxpayers footing the bill for them to come in. If we do it for Stockton, do we have to do it for Rowan and Cape Atlantic College. This looks like a big money maker for Stockton and those who would be contracted to build it.
Off topic but can someone tell me why the Mayor doesn't know he's not supposed to be on the cellphone while driving? Can someone tell me why he's not being ticketed?
come on no one gets a ticket in hammonton the cops don't write tickets. they don't rely on that money . they don't need it. hammonton writes the least amount of tickets period. could someone get us the numbers on this please. i see a least thirty people a day on bellevue on thier cell phones.
Thank Goodness the Hammonton Police Dept. does not issue frivilous, silly tickets on the taxpaying citizens of Hammonton who have alot of other bills to pay.
Whoever wants the cops to write alot of tickets so the town can "make money" is a fool. Do you realize that all of these tickets must be paid by our fellow citizens? We live in NJ where fees and tickets are excessive and the laws are written to make local and state governments more money. The only people who make out are the lawyers and government budgets, which in case you have not realized are already bloated.
Let the Hammonton Police Dept. continue the fine service to our community without going out of their way to overly burden the fellow hard working Hammonton citizens.
Why after reading that HF newspaper the "Gazette" does it not speak to the money it will cost the taxpayers? I don't think that Stockton is going to have a campus as one would think in Hammonton. Does anyone really think that is true? Why the spin as to how great this is, just who is paying for this? Why haven't the people heard any details? If other groups were to spend money, the local rag would have blasted that group for a waste of tax dollars, where is their reporting on this, no, its'all good, because it benefits the chosen few.
Wake up Hammonton its another taxpayer funded project that will benefit Stockton, not you the taxpayer. They need to answer many questions before the town should even think about this. Lets start and ask is any of it legal?, can Stockton pay for this on their own? Maybe the Stockton should go ask other schools in the area since their kids will also benefit. Lets' ask St.Joe and Buena, won't they benefit? Lets make this a true community project that will have area support so that it will work. Or is this another deal where we build something and think only Hammonton people can support it, because we truly don't have enough people to make it work?
keep in mind its all good , just watch just who is telling you that...because it may not be all good!
In today's tough times, nothing should be given out for free especially to Stockton. Republicans think that we are merely in a "Mental Recession." Remember that! They just don't get it.

Get a life already, he was probably ordering McCain signs from local democrats on his cell phone.

That's probably true! He has been listening and acting upon what the Dems have been saying for a long time now. The Dems brought the debt problem to light, he now has a debt reduction plan. The Dems complained about the Gypsy Moth vote, they had to reverse the vote and implement the program. He tried to stop leave and bulky trash pickup, the Dems and the public were very vocal and he had to reverse that decision. He went after the Chief, the Dems and the public were shocked, he lost the case and was labeled as not being credible. Now he wants to put the town further in debt by making the town foot the whole bill for Stockton to come here. The Dems have already offered a compromise that will not cost the taxpayers a dime.

The Democrats did nothing. It was the Republicans who did everything in town. This week's letter from Bertino, Vitalo and Marino said so!

The Republicans have written in their letter than the changes HF has made are good. Why vote Republican? Bertino doesnt even show up at the meetings. Once Bertino was replaced by Wuillermin on the highway department, even the Reps write that things improved.

If you vote Republican than you get 2 more years of Republican minds like Bertino, Marino and Vitalo. IF you vote Hammonton First then you no longer have balance in Town Council. You'll have the whims of a few elite controlling 7 in Town Council. You have to vote Democrat if you want real balance on Town Council since to many in Hammonton- Republicans and Hammonton First are one in the same.
