We would like to commend the Hammonton Board of Education for continuing the trend started by the previous Board of limiting the buyouts at the end of district contracts. Anyone who follows the news has heard of the recent buyout of a retiring superintendent in Keansburg, NJ who received a buyout for severance, unused sick and vacation time of $741,000. Our district has set caps on these buyouts at $15,000 maximum saving the Hammonton taxpayers a huge amount of taxes. This was a practice that began while Democratic Candidate Jim Mavc Lane was on the School Board. Negotiations are a tough business andwhen competing with other school districts sometimes concessions are made. Thakfully our school board did not permit our district to fall into this kind of trap and hopefully the Business Administrator and Asst. Superintendent who just had their contracts approved did not even ask for these costly buyouts. Once again, Congtratulations to the Hammonton School Board.

No, Jim Mac Lane is in favor of limiting the buyouts given to administgrators. The Superintendent in Keansburg, NJ just received a $741,000 buyout upon her retirement and it is important steps like the ones we have already taken in our district that will stop these kind of abuses of the taxpayers money. When I served on the BOE, we put these types of limits in place, now maybe the rest of NJ needs to follow suit to stop these abuses. And, by the way, many private sector companies do pay for unused sick time. It is done in a variety of different ways including a lump sum buyout upon retirement. It is done as an incentive to keep employees from taking unecessary sick time.

I work at Sysco and here's our Sick Day Benefits. We get 10 sick days per year. We can carryover our unused sick days. We geat a 50% payout of unused sick time when we retire. It's very easy to get large payouts in the private sector still. Many companies are limiting sick day payouts. There's talk at Sysco of doing so. In a very competetive field, perks do attract the best people to work in those fields but benefits package need to be scrutinized more. $15,000 is a good cap.

This thread was one to congratulate the school board for putting a limit on the benefit buyouts that used to occur when Administrayors left our District. When I was on the Board we started capping the buyouts and this Board has seen fit to continue these caps in negotiations with Administration. By your constant complaining it sounds as if Hammonton First is against these caps and wants the caps and limits lifted. By attacking me it sounds like you want unlimited buyouts available like the $741,000 buyout that just occured in Keansburg. Believe me, the Hammonton Democrats are in no way in favor of returning to those kinds of benefits either in the schools or in the Town hall. We need to balance between fair compensation and the cost to the taxpayers while eliminating the loopholes that have existed for years in local government and all accross the State of NJ.
