Last week the editor-in-chief of the Gazette wrote a very long opinion on how the school board and the town should put off spending any money on making the elementary school safe and a better environment for our children to learn in. Her argument was based on the tough economic times, increasing unemployment here in town, and the possibilities presented in the upcoming economic stimulus package. But with the resounding approval of the bond referendum, her tune took a 180 degree turn this week and now she feels we should go for broke and use taxpayer money to build a branch campus for Stockton college in the downtown and the town should also bail out Kessler hospital. All three projects are worthy ones. Obviously a 40 year old elementary school needed a lot of work. Kessler certainly needs help and must stay open for our community. And a Stockton campus would be nice in Hammonton. But the latter two projects have had alternatives presented many times, only to be ignored. But the real point to be made here is the apparent hypocritical attitude taken by the Gazette editor. If you missed either of these opinions, click below to read them.
Again, this thread does not lessen the importance of any of these projects, nor do we need to discuss the alternatives here. It is just amazing how things changed so much in 7 days.
Atlantic County is broke, the state is broke, Hamilton Townsip is broke. Any lessons to be learned here in Hammonton. Nope.
In Hammonton our motto is Spend, baby, Spend!!!! So what if the Town is on its way to bankruptcy. It has been a fun ride with the Donio_DiDonato Comedy Team. Free BBQs, the Mayor doing stand-up on CN8, taxpayer dollars to Kessler and Stockton. It is all worth it if it makes a couple dopes feel important.
And all of you Naysayers and I mean you, Jim MacLaine and the Democrats, need to just stop. Depsite his casual relationship with the truth, the Mayor said there is alot of surplus and less debt. It must be true since the Gazette reported it. The Democrats need to learn good government is just so negative.

As long as there is wrongdoing by any party. No Hammontonian should ever follow such advice to just stop and shut up. This is Hammonton. This is our town. We should never be afraid to stand up and be for or against something just because a few elite might disagree. The only truth in the Gazette is the sports results. Everything else is just fluff and one side's opinion. You'll never ever, ever ever see the Hammonton Gazette say ONE positive thing about anyone running against Hammonton First. NEVER.
