HAMMONTON -- The Hammonton Regular Republican Club on Tuesday night was expected to name Michael Torrissi Jr. as its new chairman.
Torrissi would succeed Frank DiMatteo, who has served as the party's chairman for 18 years.
"Everything depends on what happens tonight," Torrissi said Tuesday, hours before a leadership vote was expected to occur at the club's regular meeting. "Currently, I'm unopposed. Frank has withdrawn."
Torrissi, 33, was on the Republican ticket for Hammonton Town Council in 2007.
He placed sixth among the nine candidates who ran for three seats.
Torrissi also has served as the Republican campaign treasurer.
Atlantic County Republican Chairman Keith Davis declined comment until after the formal vote was taken.
"I have no comment on this, as the club elections have not taken place," Davis said. "I have every confidence in the Hammonton Republican Club to handle its own affairs."
DiMatteo said he'd decline comment until after Tuesday night's meeting.
