Hammonton-Atlantic City area jobless rate makes the National list

Data released April 1 show unemployment rates in February were up year over year in every one of the country's 372 metropolitan areas, with joblessness in El Centro, Calif., worst in the U.S. at 24.5%.

The report, from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, also shows that more than 100 areas recorded unemployment rates of 10% or worse.

Hammonton-Atlantic City was one of the 100 areas with a jobless rate of 11.8%. The jobless rate for our area was up 5.1% over the rate one year ago. Only 56 areas in the United States had a higher jobless rate than this area.

Jim I didn't see Hammonton listed in the article attached. Did you attached the right link? I do not want you being accused of being a spin doctor.

Actually, the report does not break Hammonton out at all.  The entire South Jersey Shore area is listed as the Atlantic City - Hammoton, NJ area.  \

This is common in most statistical presentations.  It basically includes all of Atlantic and Cape May Counties and small portions of Southern Burlington and Ocean Counties.

To try to use this statistic as a Hammonton only statistic is not valid at all.

I do not see Hammonton listed. The casino industry is really taking a big hit for our entire area. As the casino industry struggles, we need government to cut expenses and lower payroll. We cannot have the highest paid people in the community working in the public sector.

Public employee wages and benefits must be reduced so we can re-establish a private sector. More government people creating more government jobs is not the answer.

The topic is Atlantic City-Hammonton Area.  The article or this forum never mentioned Hammonton only.

It's right on the 1st page.
