Initially the Town denied the request for fellow officers to donate sick time to Officer Haggerty. It now appears that they have also denied his request for a leave of absence to recover from his cancer treatments.
This is a joke . the employees. ( that means they work for us the town.) asked for this ord. to go away. now the union is saying we have to tell them. I feel bad for pete he is truley a great guy. the chief of police and the rest of the over paid cops . Need to wake up and relize they work for the people . and are goverened by the mayor and council. This is what happens when you let the chickens rule the hen house. Go ahead and bash away on this, You all no I am right!!!!!!!!!!!!
What does that have to do with giving him a leave of absence? According to the article the council will not even grant him a leave of absence. Putting the donation of sicj pay controversy aside, why would they deny him an unpaid leave?
He should be able to take unpaid sick leave. He will be entitled to disability just like everyone else. The amount of money and donations that he will be getting will surely cover the cost of his time off. If it is used properly and managed by an independant. As far as donating the time by others is a minority issue when it comes to the real world.
Let him get his donations hold his job, at this point it is believed that he will recover and be back. Holding his job is the proper thing to do. Heck the police department is running short now what is one more according to the mayor and the council.
Oh great here come the union's lawyers and the town lawyers.....yummy more local tax money going up in smoke. This little problem will cost the town greatly in terms of tax dollars.
The inmates are running the prison. The highest salaries, the best benefits and if you ever try to tell them no to save a little tax money they go crazy!!!! Welcome to New Jersey......home of the unions, government workers, lawyers, teacher's union, paid fireman and paid rescue with no real healthcare for anyone.
I am tired and broke but I also have a real problem. I cannot afford to leave New Jersey.
Start laying off people the Titanic called NEW JERSEY is SINKING!!!!!!
UNPAID SICL :EAVE WAS AND IS APPROVED (4 months of it) . Not like the press to screw it up my god alrerady this dept needs to be reformed . Did you ever hear of lead by example. or is it do as i say not as i do.
There is nothing to give him. Under FMLA which we are all entitled to you get 12 weeks unpaid leave which protects your jobs. He used his time when his son was born all 12 weeks. Under the FMLA you get 12 weeks per 12 months not per year per 12 months clock is set from the last time he was off. He's out of time sucks to be him but he can't have anymore, union bitching or no union bitching. When it's gone it's gone now move on.
Why was Maria Brita so hostile to a VA Hospital last night at the Council meeting? Does she not want to help vets? Is she against jobs? Is she mad because Joe Ingemi and the Democrats backed the idea?
Why did she (Maria Brita) find it necessary to address mayor & council at the expense of Officer Haggarty's illness? Oh, I forgot, to forward her (alleged) political career. When will ALL of the politicians address the issues affecting ALL residents of Hammonton? Why must they use the misfortune of another to forward their political aspirations? Or why did Maria Brita use the fund-raiser for Joanne DeFelice to bash Kessler Hospital & give the "middle finger salute" to everyone there?
Before he got sick Maria did not even know pete. Then she shows up at the meeting wearing a hpd town issue sweat shirt . she's all class, at least she did not use her trademark middle finger on the mayor and council.
Maybe Van Drew's idea isn't perfect, but at least it is a positive move. Maybe a VA hospital could be expanded to allow for a little non-vet use as well. It makes sense to at least try to see if something good can come of it rather than shoot it down right away.
The Democratic proposal calls for the emergency room to stay. There should also be discussion as to keeping some sort of regular hospital facilities in addition to the VA facilities. Even the Mayor's statement included an emergency room. The upcoming meeting in June should be very enlightening and hopefully all will approach this meeting with open minds and the safety and security of the people of Hammonton in mind.
I agree with the admin here.....the goal is to have a hospital that the entire community can utilize. The veterans deserve first care that a good private hospital will provide the entire community.
I am very skeptical of a state politician like Jeff Van Drew making big proclamations regarding a hospital for veterans that is mostly funded with federal dollars which he has no say over.........I wish Jeff Van Drew would worry about the state budget and slow down the spending instead of scoring political points.
I can see it now Van Drew and Whelan who do not represent Hammonton at any level coming into Hammonton to stir the pot and leave accomplishing absolutely nothing!!!!! Why didn't Van Drew and Whelan get CORSLIME to grant Hammonton's Hospital any of the 44 MILLION that went to NORTH JERSEY!!!!!
I am getting steamed up now.......these politicians are coming to an area they do not represent to pontificate and blow smoke while doing nothing......These guys are PUPPETS and have no real answers!!!!
Republicans continually make cuts to the VA budget just ask any veteran. Veteran's hospitals nationwide are underfunded. Sure Republicans love posing with our troops and hanging up banners saying We Support Our Troops or Mission Accomplished. But.... when it comes to their care when our troops return home and are in need of medical care, they are forgotten.
