Local resident raises many questions after recent snow.

To the editor:

Everywhere I go, people are complaining about the horrible condition of Hammonton's streets after the snow.

Almost a week later, some streets are still impassible and it doesn't appear as if any sand or salt was used at all.

From my observations, all the school's properties were quickly cleared by a private contractor, but the streets were so bad, school buses would have gotten stuck so classes had to be cancelled.

What a sad state of affairs when schools could have opened but the politicians chose to do nothing to maintain the streets.

To those who are complaining, I say, what did you expect when you elected the same people back into office?

What did you think when they promised no new taxes? That town-funded services would stay the same?

These politicians keep borrowing and spending on "their" projects only. When they need even more money, it seems like they just keep cutting services.

The only time you matter is in the fall when you vote, and a bag of veggies and a few promises seem to buy your support every time.

If you still think these politicians care about you, just look at your police department. Crime is way up, according to all local and state statistics, yet police and court office staff has been cut, and our already-undersized department lost three officers in 2009 and none of them have been replaced.

And don't think the crooks can't see that Hammonton is turning into a wide-open town either.

Look at all the recent drug arrests. Will you be safe working out in your garden next summer or will you be mugged right in your own back yard? Will you be safe in those back-street parking lots downtown after dark?

But hey, it's more important to keep pouring money into our five-star money pits, the airport, Eagle Theatre, the destruction of Lake Park, the sinking Canoe Club and their precious downtown. These expensive vanity projects are much more important than plowing the roads or your own personal safety, right?

Just be sure to keep your doors locked at all times. This isn't the safe town it used to be, and the statistics prove it.

Our overworked police can't be everywhere at the same time, so when thugs start kicking in your door at night, maybe it will finally dawn on you that these politicians care about no one but themselves.

The Gazette mentioned how John DiDonato left office with a $10 million surplus.  (http://www.hammontongazette.com/Weekly%20file/news3.html)  Then, how come we could not afford snow removal?

Also, the Gazette failed to mention the $50K in change orders for the Canoe Club at the last meeting.  Yet they were all over the School Board for their change orders.  Also, I noticed that the Mayor thanked the people who served on committees.  Hmmmm.... if the rumors are true.makes you wonder what the Mayor knew.

We need people like the person who wrote the letter to the paper to run for political office in Hammonton.

Yeah your right...the whole thing started with the layoffs we should have seen the writing on the wall then. How could a town be in great financial shape surplus up debt down and have to lay off employees if we were unaffected by the downing turning economy??? What the f*** does anyone on Council have a brain? We have one republican who knows the ropes and remains silent during all this... Why? We need people with a brain in office. Just because they have money doesn't mean they have a brain! Devious minds attract wealth!

You wanted someone with a brain....that option was available on Nov. 3, 2009.  Voters said no.

HF's biggest accomplice is The Hammonton News....they only report what people tell them and that is considered the truth.  They never say what is going on or do any of their own research or even ask a question.

If there was a rumor that one of Chris Christie's or Jon Corzines biggest campaign contributors did something wrong, you would bet that a newspaper would look into it.  But not in Hammonton.

It would be easier if all 3 parties and every organization just wrote their own articles and the hammonton news would print it.

Meanwhile, HF has its own newspaper that spreads its deceits.  So anyone who complains is on their own.

Shame on the Hammonton News.

Yes, the Hammonton News has really let the town down over the past 4 years.  I guess as long as no media investigates HF, they will be here to stay.

Yea, we got the Hammonton First Gazzette and The Hammonton No News.

Is the Hammonton Arts Center closing down?  Looks like hard times have it some important people.

I heard the art center and the hallmark store are both closing due to lack of business. I wonder if anyone is using their money to hold the media off from this stolen money scandal. That's big news but no one is reporting it WHY WHY WHY
