Hammonton teachers thumb their noses at Board of Education, Taxpayers, and Gov. Christie.

The Hammonton Education Association has refused to have any discussions to help the district or the Hammonton taxpayers with next years budget. As we all know the school district's state aid was cut by over $2,000,000 for the next school year in addition to the reduction made in the current school year. Major decisions need to be made in order to deal with this major loss of income while still endeavoring to provide a quality education to our children. In addition to a multitude of other cuts, the Hammonton Board of Education has asked the employees of the district to accept a 1 year wage freeze which would prevent laying off 38 teachers and other employees within the district. The administration(Superintendent, Principals, Vice-principals, etc.)  has already accepted this proposal but the teachers refuse to even discuss it.

The Governor of NJ, Chis Christie, has sent a letter to the NJ Education Association asking for a wage freeze. You can read the Governors letter by clicking here.
Everyone is well aware of the taxpayers stance on these issues. The taxpayers of Hammonton do not want their taxes to go up. The taxpayers are struggling in the current economic climate. Homes have been foreclosed on, people are unemployed, many residents have had their salaries frozen, many have had to take pay cuts, employee contributions to benefits have risen, costs of goods and services have gone up. The taxpayers can not afford to take another hit by a tax increase. But the Hammonton teachers don't care. Everyone else has had a rough time, but they want to make sure the gravy train continues to run for them.

The Hammonton School Board has made a very generous offer to the teachers. In the Governors letter, he not only asks for a salary freeze, but also a contribution by the teachers towards benefits. The Hammonton teachers have only been asked for a salary freeze, and will continue to receive their benefits at no cost to them. They are much better off than the majority of Hammonton taxpayers who pay their salary. I don't think it is possible to find any private sector employees who do not contribute to their own benefits.

But they don't care. It appears that the teachers are only out for themselves. It appears that they care nothing about the difficulties of the Hammonton taxpayers. It appears they care nothing about the effect this will have on the education of our children. And it appears they don't even care about their own members. Their actions will cost 38 of their co-workers to lose their jobs. It appears this is a selfish move by each one of the teachers.

The school board will be holding a public meeting to present the budget on Monday March 29 at 7 pm. The teachers will be ther in force to try and bully the school board. We need to make sure that the public is there to make our voices heard also. The teachers need to know that the Hammonton taxpayers do not support the teachers in their selfish actions. They need to know that we have had enough!!!

Come out on Monday night and make your voice heard loud and clear!

While teachers are in Trenton protesting the cuts and holding signs that say, "Think of the Kids!" Our teachers are here in Hammonton yelling, "Think only of us!!!"

Their greed will take them down. Do what that one board did fire all the teachers, with so many others out of work it won't be a problem replacing them.

Really, now? who does?
I over heard someone in the dinner last evening saying that the school was going to reduce the entire secreterial pool and hire a temp service. What I heard was there are many different things that can be done. Anything to save money I am for. One would say changing this would not harm anyones education.

I heard some board members last night at the Townhouse talking. They said that secretaries are going to be outsourced to KellyGirl and that their moving forward to privatize other district services in order to save money.

When is the teachers union going to wake up and save these peoples jobs ?

They need to target the high paid not the low paid. The town targeted the low paid and where did it get them? Nowhere! There are too many people making $100,000 a year salaries, health benefits and pensions while the taxpayers have to keep sacrificing to keep paying them more. Where is the justice? What are the taxpayers getting in return for the big bucks they are shelling out?

Does Kelly Girl even exist anymore?

It is not the Teacher's Union responsibility to save secretaries' jobs.   I think the public should get a surprise visit to see how they do very little. there are too many of them anyway. Everybody's wife and mother is a secretary. It is a disgrace how the Board is shoving the responsibility on the union.  So everyone will attack the teachers now? Let the teachers teach.  The Board had the opportunity 3 years ago to outsource and they missed that boat. It is their fault things have gotten so bad. People seem to forget most of the Board/Teachers are all family members. They are just looking after their own and  the kids are the ones who will suffer.

Wow, first there are people saying the teachers should get their raises and complaining about "higher paid" people.  Then there are people complaining that the teachers should get there raises and wanting to get rid of secretaries.

It sure seems like the teachers are willing to throw anybody under the bus so they still get their raises.

I think we'll see Board members having to sleep on the couch if they don't let their wives or children keep their free health benefits.

Don't bank on that, I hear there are a few board members that want to cut the budget below zero....they  are the ones I support

Thank you to the Board of Education for standing tall and not giving into the Union who just wanted to raise your taxes. As the people loose their jobs I for one hope and pray they personally thank their union leadership for doing nothing for them. The union has know its days are numbered. If I worked there I would stop paying my union dues because they did nothing for the rank and file. They as usual only worry about those at the top of the scale. Raise taxes is their only solution, that is why as a union they are out of gas.
