Renter's Fee

At the recent Town Council meeting, Town Council proposed instituting a fee of $35 to landlords for each of the units they rent. We of the Democratic Party do not understand the neccessity for this fee. Before the current Council took office in January, everything needed to enforce our laws, enforce codes and protect the renters of Hammonton was in place in the person of the Code Enforcement Officer. The current council has since fired this individual and has no intention of replacing him. Now they want to put in this fee and one of the reasons given is to determine how many rental properties there are in Hammonton. How in the world do they expect compliance with paying fees if they don't know how many units there are now and don't have anyone to even enforce codes let alone payment of these fees.

No matter how you slice it, this is a new tax and it will not help to protect the renters, it will only place more of a burden on them. Let's face it, if the renter is hit with a new fee, it will be passed on to the rentee. Rents will increase as a direct result of this fee. This is just another example of increased taxes for less in services.

Council should forget this fee and replace the position of code enforcement officer which existed in Hammonton. No tax increase, returned services, increased enforcement equals true service to the residents of Hammonton.

Read my lips HF, Now New Taxes.  Property owners already pay taxes and pay tax on the income received on the rental income they receive.  Now they're getting a 3rd tax compliments of HF.  What's HF going to tax now parking spots in front or on your business property.  Tax based on the number of windows on your home.  Tax based on the number of lights on your street.  Tax on number of children you have.  Tax on number of cars you own.  Taxes, Taxes, Taxes.  I thought everyone knew -we're all tired of taxes.  HF keep up the good working.   Your making it easier for the DEMS and REPS.

I can't wait until next town council meeting.  When I saw this on tv.  I want to shout out and run to town hall. I have a house with 3 apartments.  Why am I going to punished at a price of $105 a year?  I'm no slumlord.   Why night just fine whoever is not maintaining their properties up to code?  Tenants have lots of rights in NJ.  I take good care of my tenants and they took good care of my property.  I've had some rotten apples who I've had to go to court over and have won each time. I"m fair but I'm also firm.  I"m pay my property taxes.  No more taxes HF.

I think this is a disguise to set up a tenant's tax once the town knows the who, what's and where's of each property in town.  So much for property rights.

Let's go ahead and tax the poor, lower income workers, middle class workers so that they'll move out of Hammonton. That's HF vision of  Society Hill.  If you can't afford a $500,000 in Hammonton, you're not welcome.  I rent in town and can't afford to get more than $220,000.  What homes can I buy at Hammonton at the price?  Why are so many builders building McMansions instead of modest sized homes.  Fees, Taxes whatever.  These are just measures to make me move.  I won't allow that to happen. I'm going to stick out and vote for people who will battle my enemy-HF.  Ralph Glorioso talked to me when he was in my neighborhood. He said his team will represent all of Hammonton.  That's what we need our government to listen to us and actually represent us.

I have 10 rental units.  I am not paying this new tax.  HF doesn't understand the landlord business.  I don't make that much money renting my units.
