The Hammonton Democrats challenge both the Republicans and Hammonton 1st to involve all 3 parties in Hammonton in the government process. On January 1st there will be many committee and board assignments made by Mayor and council. Let's end the trend of nepotism and cronyism and support equal representation in Hammonton Government.
The Hammonton Democrats stand ready to serve our community.
The Board of Education gave away the Middle School to St. Joe. They said how bad the building was. Look how nice it is now.
We don't need to waste $5.9M for a new town hall. Save millions and remodel the existing one. The Dems need to get in front of this issue. How much new tax can we afford? The governor is trying to cut property taxes back. Here is a way to save $5.9M.
I would be very disappointed if some or all of the Democratic candidates don't get asked to serve on town committees. These 3 guys ran a great campaign and weren't afraid to address the issue early. I know that people like to say that this is a Republican town. Well we've seen how that has lead us in the last decade. We need Democrats on council. Hammonton First is not a good alterantive to having balance in council. The Democrats have always stoop up for the working class resident. Hammonton is a working class town. I think Bertino, Marino and Vitalo will do a good job. I personally would have liked Diaz and Santone on council but I'm not angered by the results like some HF people I know. The people have put their trust in the Republicans this year. They've lost trust in HF. I hope next election people will consider Diaz, Santone if they run or whoever the Democrats have on their ticket. All parties should be represented on council not just the Republicans and the Republican Elite.
The previous poster is right. There can't be just Republicans running the show. We need people from different parties. Will the Republicans give Democrats committee seats or shut them out? We'll see if the Republicans are willing to work with the Democrats now.
Already we have the Rich Hammonton First Republicans attacking the Republicans? I wish more people voted Democrat. The issues affecting me haven't been addressed by council in years. We need action not just talk.
Is there a plan to try to compete with the Republicans next year? Working with the Republicans got the Democrats nothing this year. Maybe there is a way to join forces with others or else this can quickly go back to the days of 7-0 Republican tyranny.
Maybe the way to beat the Republicans this coming year is to work with HF. If the Dems don't the Republicans will. That would end any chance for the Dems to win seats in 2007.
Jim, when a prize fighter "takes a dive" in a fixed fight they at least try to make it look good. Try to not defend the Republicans every chance you get. You are supposed to make it look like you still want to beat the Republicans badly for every seat so that the Democrats get a mandate for thier platform. Do try to get it right when you do this to your next three "candidates" this year.
Just because we had a respectful campaign with the Reps doesn't in any way mean we didn't try to win. We were the ones that brought up a lot of different issues in this campaign. It is very frustrating to us that the Republicans basically sit back and run very safe campaigns without a lot of substance but continue to beat us at the polls. We worked very hard to get our platform out there and I think we did, but this Town is a Republican Town and our guys were all brand new to the political scene. If Town council lives up to it's promise of government representing ALL the people, then maybe some of our guys will be able to serve on some of the boards or committees to gain more exposure.
Maybe if you pointed out the fact that Bertino was lining his pockets with town money paid to his company and the Republican campaign manager ran the most hateful and divisive campaign in the town's history you mght have given the Democratic candidates a fighting chance.
The Republican Party is falling apart and spliting up again due to political infighting.
The Hammontonian web page (http://www.hammontonian.com/) has an article that some Republicans are nervous some of their newly elected people are going to leave their party. We need to recruit them to be Democrats to get seats on Council! We need to be talking to them NOW.
I'd be very disappointed if Santone, Diaz and Glorioso if interested don't get appointed to committees. They worked real hard on the campaign and are the type of guys that won't just sit back and be inactive. They would ask questions, make suggestions and more importantly bring action. Let's move Hammonton forward for REAL.
Congrats to Jose Diaz. The Hammonton First people selected him to be Shade Tree Commission Chairman. 2007 will be another year of great progress continuing in Hammonton.
I just saw that 2 good Democrats, Jose Diaz and Terri Cafiso were appointed to positions by Mayor DiDonato and Hammonton First Town Council. I really think it's great that they did this. The republicans have never done anything like this in 10 years and I admire Hammonton First for reaching out across party lines.
Now that Jerry Vitalo has announced he has left the Republicans to form a 4th party who do you all think will be his candidate for this year's elections? This might be an opportunity for the Democrats to win seats by working with Hammonton First.
I hear Vitalo is looking for a lot of Democrats to leave the party and join his fourth party because they are tired of watching their leaders throw their candidates under the bus.
People just don't read bios anymore. Jose was born and raised in Hammonton. He's lived here all his life. He was only away when he served overseas in the Navy. Is that good enough or are you looking for another reason not to consider him.
