Ordinance for second "toter" trash truck passes first reading
Permalink

The council did approve an ordinance on first reading to purchase a second automated trash collection truck. The measure was approved by a 6-to-1 vote, with Colasurdo casting the lone vote against.

DiDonato said the purchase of a second automated truck would allow the town to go to a four-day week collection schedule rather than the current five-day schedule. With two automated trucks on the road, DiDonato said upwards of 1,500 toters a day could be picked up.

RC wants to give business to family and friends. Of course he wants to give it to his buddies in the waste removal business.  RC though is rightfully though and authority on trash.  Look what his trash talk about the KKK has led to.  We have 2 extremists groups now coming to Hammonton.  I thought Hammonton's darkest year ever couldn't get any worse.

Anthony Marino is a nice addition to the team. He is working well with Hammonton First. He should be able to help continue the great progress. His leadership after the Mayor fired jimmy Bertino from the Hwy Dept chairperson role is already paying dividends getting the trash picked up.

It is a shame that the Mayor replaced Bertino from the Highway Department.  Bertino and Lance did a great job in getting the first trash truck.  They also did a great job in increasing the efficiency of the highway department after Hammonton First slashed their work force.

I hope Anthony doesn't overly suck up to HF.  I think Anthony can do well on is own.  HF needs Anthony working with them more than Anthony needs HF working with him.   Don't let HF think you're one of the inner circle Anthony.

To the poster above who keeps quoting others in the same format:

Anthony Marino is doing a good job and working with the team.  Is you problem that he is not ripping HF?  Is that what you want him to do... just constantly bash HF?

No, I like Anthony. I just hope they don't ruin his future in politics like HF did with Lewis when HF said no to cleaning the lake when she had the solution.

I am confused. For years the lake was dirty when the Republicans were in charge. HF fixes it is less than a year. What were the Republicans doing all those years? They are do-nothings!

To clear up your confusion, we had a money back gaurentee to clean that lake and Hammonton First sat on their hands and refused to act resulting in Ms. Sparcino losing her seat, and the lake had to close for the year.

Talk about do-nothings!!!!!!!!!1

Why didn't the Republicans take that offer for the last four or five years when they had the majority of the council seats?  All I see is that HF approved the deal while everybody else does nothing and bashes.

You are welcome now that I have cleared up YOUR confusion!

That solution you speak of didn't come to light until last year and remember it was a money back guarantee and HF still voted it down. After finally listening to the people for all of last year they were forced into action.

Gee, it seems you are saying that after years of the Republicans not being able to clean up the lake that Hammonton First found a solution and then recently voted to move forward after reviewing it.

And it comes with a money back guarantee?  Sounds like HF did a great job!

I heard about thIs new Clean-Flo sysem that Jim MacLane mentons Hammonton First found this year. They presented it on TV in a council meeting. Apparently they had three PhD guys donate their time and look into it. Hammonton First was able to get a money-back guarantee if it does not work.

These guys are doing a GREAT job!

Please do not misquote me. The Republicans found Clean-Flo last year. The money back guarantee was made to council  and shortly after HF took office, HF decided to turn it down. Now after a full year they have changed there mind and approved the system. We lost a year. I don't think I would agree that losing the use of the lake for another year was doing a great job.

Hammonton First is doing a lot of positive things. It is amazing how hard everyone is lining up to try to take credit.

Aftr years of doing nothing, the Republicans and Democrats want to take credit for Hf cleaning the lake.

The problem is when you look at their posts you can see it as all a lie. First they say Hammonton First Member Jeanne Sparacino-Lewis found the idea. Then they say that it was found in 2006, when HF had a majorty of the seats of council. And it was approved in 2006.

GREAT JOB HAMMONTON FIRST!!! It is a shame people like Jim MacLane try to keep bashing. Even the Republicans brought his school board team up on ethics charges to the State.

Once again slowly...No...school...board...member...was...ever...charged...wit...anything!
Mr....Cuneo...the...Business...Administrator...was...charged...for...not...
getting...the...contracts...approved...by...the...board! Those...charges...were...found...to...have...no...merit...and...were...dismissed!
I am in no way bashing, but I don't understand why some people want to take credit for others hard work. The system didn't just show up as a result of Ms. Lewis's switch to HF. But after the previous council had looked into it, the guarantee was offered and the first opportunity to vote on it came after HF was in office. The fact remains, THEY VOTED IT DOWN, and it was only after a large outcry from the citizens of Hammonton for the past year did they then approve the deal that should have been approved a year ago.
That's all over now, stop trying to take credit and just be happy we seem to have a solution to the problems at the lake. It's time to move forward and make these things happen. In their first campaign, one of the things that made them so successful was that HF stayed away from the mud slinging and just presented the positive things they were going to do. Last year they thought they could just ride the wave from the previous year and did nothing else. Right now they are on a vicious campaign to bash and hurt and damage the reputations of everyone who doesn't bow down to them. The very thing that got them elected, being positive, has been thrown out the window and they are leading the pack in vicious attacks on numerous people. It is only working to divide the Town again and to erode the support HF once had. I hope it is only a few misguided individuals that are spearheading this type of campaigning, but I implore the good people of HF to intercede and stop these people or this person before he does any more harm to the good people of Hammonton.

Bash away MacLane. Hammonton First is fixing the lake, the hospital, and soon the school.

The Republicans and Democrats accomplished nothing and just bash.

Hammonton First:

IS NOT FIXING THE HOSPITAL:  HF can't do anything.  It is completely out of their jurisdiction.  Having a "chat" and planting lawn signs does not fix problems.

IS NOT FIXING THE SCHOOL:  Hammonton First is sticking their nose where it doesn't belong.  I don't belive the school board is the best board around, however we voted for them, we can vote them out, we can even recall their asses out.  This elected governing body is responsible for the schools, not Hammonton First.  If they were so interested, why not run for school board.....oh wait a minute, Tom Costa, their spokesperson, is on the board and, when he is not getting arrested, is doing a real bang-up job.

They are, however, may be fixing the lake.  We have to wait and see.  Like Jim said, they voted down fixing the lake until public outcry, which was led by the Democrats, forced them to act...... a year too late!

So if Hammonton First sticks their nose in and stabilizes tax rates at the school, is that good or bad?

You cannot stabilize a tax rates by forcing them to give up land they already bought and paid for.  What happens next year???  That is the problem with this town and the schools.....too many one shot band-aids, and no real solution.

So if this year the tax increase is low, we would then all be able to agree that Hammonton First did the right thing, yes?

Um, no.  Your logic is very strange.

That rediculous land deal, where you screwed the taxpayers by purchasing land we already bought and paid for, with money you said you didn't have, was not the right thing.

A long term solution would have been better.

Last year the amount of tax increase the school wanted was cut dramatically by Hammonton First.

Now how much will the school need this year?  If it is high, then Hammonton First screwed up.  If it is low, then Hammonton First was right all along and they fixed things!

As a regular taxpayer, I will be looking very closely this yearat the combined town and school tax increase this year.  It will be interesting to see since what HF can do or not do for the town.

I thought since the school board gets blamed for budget problems then one would they should be commended for fixing the budget problems.  We're already seeing the town hall over budget.  Who do we thank for that Main Street?

What flavor Kool-Aid are you drinking?  I thought the party was over and they stopped serving drinks.   We didn't get a tax cut.  What we got was GUARANTEED TAX INCREASES now buying land we already own.

Would you have rather paid the extra 15 cent tax increase the school wanted?

Would you have rather built the needed fields elsewhere and spent more money?

What's the difference? The deal worked out by the Town was a one shot income. That means the school district starts out this year $1.2 million behind. That income is not repeated this year so the taxpayers will have to make up the difference and this will cause a 10.2 cents tax increase before they even start the budget process.

It actually wasn't one shot.  The school needs to correctly charge Waterford.  Since they wren't keeping their books properly, they had a one year problem which the town needed to help them get thru with the buyout.  The school won't need 10.2 cents even overall.

There were two alternatives.

1.  Give the school the 22.9 cents they demanded last year.  Then, since they still wouldn't be charging Waterford properly and have teacher raises, give them another 10 cents this year.  That would be about 32-33 cents over two years.

2.  Give the school 7.1 cents last year.  Help them get thru the problem of charging Waterford.  Give them another 7-8 cents this year.  That is 14-15 cents over two years.

Option 2, which saves the taxpayers about $180 per year for every $100,000 your house is assessed.

Everybody can scream all they want.  But if the school comes in with a single digit tax increase or less this year, then the HF plan worked.

If the plan doesn't work, feel free to blast HF.  But if it does, would you at least agree that it was a good idea and helped the town?

If the Governor then comes with more money, even better.  But we had to fix the problem ourselves without waiting on Trenton.  They might never make any changes.  Who knows what the future holds at the state level?

So now Hammonton First is taking credit for the Waterford tuition, too????
