The Hammonton School District found out on 2/26 that they will be receiving a substantial increase in state aid for the first time in over 5 years. Hammonton will get a 10.7% increase in state aid for the 2007-2008 school year. The increase will mean an additional $964,367 for the school budget. This is good news to the school district and to the taxpayers of Hammonton.
Thank god for HF's plan to work with the school last year. Bcause they worked with them and brought down their tax increase from $0.25 to $0.07 we all benefitted. No teachers or programs were cut and the taxpayer's taxes only went up a little, instead of a lot. HF said it would work and it did!
As for Jon Corzine, he might not be a great Governor, but at least he's giving Hammonton more State money for the schools. So we all have to thank him for that. I guess Hammonton has been rewarded for being so fiscally responsible - thanks to HammontonFirst's efforts and cost-cutting measures.
I wouldn't jump to say Hammonton is being rewarded, Atlantic City got a 16% increase. But we do have to give a lot of credit to Gov. Corzine, he said he would do something about school funding and he did it.
The Hammonton Democrats, lead by Jim MacKlan is bringing politics into the schools by running former DEMOCRATIC MAYOR Barbara Berenato for the School Board.
Hey Jim MacKlan, Why aren't you spouting off about how shameful it is that a former DEMOCRATIC MAYOR is running for School Board. It is sickening that you're using our kids for your dsgusting political games.
These Democrats and Republicans are sticking their noses into everything and making everything political.
Barabara Berenato ruined the Town and brought us Plymouth Place, which dumped 100's of kids into the school, now she wants to sit on the school board.
Democrat Jim MacKlan ruined the schools and Barabara Berenato, former DEMOCRATIC MAYOR will make them even worse.
First off, you give me way too much credit. I do not lead the Hammonton Democrats. Until recently John Brigandi was the President of the Hammonton Democratic club. He has stepped down due to conflicts with work hours and so our newly elected President will be installed at our 3/18 breakfast.
I have said it before and I will say it again, please stop deliberately mispelling my name to try and insult my family and myself. I want this harassment to stop, and stop now!!!!
As far as Barbara Berenato running for the Board of Education, that is a choice she made by herself. IT IS NOT a choice of the club nor is it a move by the Hammonton Dems. Barbara made this decision on her own and is running on her own. People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, HF stood solidly behing two candidates last year and supported their run.
As for the rest of your rhetoric, it has all been answerd before so no need to repeat it all again because you are obviously not capable of understanding it.
I know Barbara is proud of her service to the Town as Mayor and I am very proud of my service on the school board. At least we have served, while you sit back and criticize but won't put your actions where your mouth is. Why don't you run for an office and give some service back to this Town?
We do agree on one thing, politics and education do not mix.
Hammonton First''s financial plan is working spectacularly! The Schhol tax was kept down last year and now the School finances are being fixed!
After years of constantly hearing about the finacial troubles at the School, Hammonton First has fixed it in only one year.
The Town ran a $1.5 million surplus with no tax increase. The school is fixed. There are many great projects moving forward. These Hammonton First guys did an incredible job!

Great job indeed by HF. KKK, unqualified contractors, vendettas, a town more divided in its 141 year history. Thank you Firsters.

All these years of no one being able to charge Waterford the correct amount of tuition and now HF has fixed it? Great job!
It's a shame no credit at all can go to the new BA who seems to be doing a much better job than the previous one. This wouldn't be another one of those times when HF ignores all the contributions of other people to claim all the glory for themselves, would it??????

I thought that Barbara Prettyman was brought in by the School Finance Committee.
hey HFers as I said before your like a cancer you received your first treatment last November you'll be getting your second treatment this November and finally Hammonton will be benign of HF once and for all. Oh and by the way no matter how much you lie to the real people of this town they now know what your all about
Right, Barbara Prettyman worked for the Town of Hammonton's Financial Auditor - Schwartz & Company. The Town's Fiscal Oversight Committee pointed out to the School that their business administrator at the time (Lesley Motz) was a moron. Because of this, she eventually quit or was removed last year. The Town also pointed out to the school that the Business Administrator did not know how to count how many students were attending the schools and that Waterford was not paying its "Fair Share".
Then, after the Town had pointed out all of the issues to the school and the school said the Town was nuts, the School announced that they were missing $2.5 million. The Town acted quickly and Barbara Prettyman, from the Town's Auditor, was hired as the School's new Business Adminstrator. Since she has worked at the schools the last few months she's done a great job.
All of this, however, did come about because of the Town's fiscal responsibility and creative attempt to permanently correct the schools financial problems. Thank god Hammonton First was their and not the Democrats or Republicans who would have just raised taxes or cut teachers for a one-year, one-time "Quick Fix".
Put that in your pipe and smoke it Jimmy Bertino. Sucks to be you, doesn't it!

HF didn't work with the school. They shoved their plan down our kids throats. If the state gave us the state aid they owed us from the past then we wouldn't need this lease purchase agreement. What a bunch of bull to say that the school got more money because the governor rewarded the school. It's money that is owed to them all along. Keep on exagerating your accomplishments. We'll see how far that gets you on the next election. Shall we Ride the Wave Again. No thanks, we've suffered enough from the HF Wipeout.
Before HF looked into the school fnanaces, the taxes skyrocketed every year. It got so bad that Jimmy Bertino voted to bring up school board and administration members on ethics charges.
The school was paying Waterford millions of dollars. They were leasing everything that wasn't tied down. The school was falling apart and everyone knew it was a disaster even though the school refused to admit the had a deficit.
Now, with HF uncovering the problems and the deficit, the new School Finace Chairman brought in a completely new business office and they have worked to fix things. They have done a great job and the school finances have been turned around.
The $1.2 million HF used to get them thru this last bad year protected the taxpayers from a high tax increase.
It sure seems like a positive change was made due to HF looking into everything over there.

I hear Waterford is going to be paying millions more this year which will save the Hammonton taxpayer. Fantastic job!

I doubt Firsters would give credit to a Democratic Governor for increasing state aid to the schools. They'll see they did it.

The school we receive additional revenue of $2.4M from Waterford this year. That is by far the largest source of new revenue for the School. This is all because costs are being accurately tracked for the first time in years. It is a great day for Hammonton!
