Councilman Vitalo presents Ordinance to reinstate MUAC
Permalink

At the 1/21 council meeting, Jerry Vitalo made a statement regarding the importance of having a Municipal Utilities Advisory Committee. An ordinance prepared by Mr. Vitalo reinstating MUAC was presented to each council member for their review and the Mayor instructed the Water & Sewer committee to review the information and present a report and recommendation at the next council meeting which is scheduled for 2/25.

The Hammonton Democrats support Mr. Vitalo's efforts in restoring this vital committee. The town's infrastructure is too important and too expensive to be left to a political committee. The MUAC board needs to be comprised of professionals and motivated bipartisan individuals who have only the best interests of the residents of Hammonton at heart. These issues are too important and time consuming to be properly handled at a full meeting of council and that setting is too intimidating for many individuals to present their case. The Mayor knows how important the input of additional people can be to the council and that is evidenced by his creation of several new committees this year. The Hammonton Democrats will support Mr. Vitalo in any way we can to bring MUAC back for the people of Hammonton.

I am for MUAC but I am not for Jerry Vitalo or his side kick. There are proper ways to have good debate without being rude.Sorry Jerry but your actions at last nights' meeting have made me look at possibily supporting other candidates in the upcoming elections. Jerry you were all over the place, the best thing you can do is debate on a single issue. The public will only think you are a loose cannon with no MERRIT.The issues you bring don't have to be so many, they just need substance to them. Last year you didn't say boo, this year it all about re-election, or something like that. Jerry if you continue down this path you will be done before you start. The people in Hammonton don't like it,look at past elections, guys like you will get wiped out, it may already be to late.A non- firster who is upset with you.

Who are the council members getting health benefits, according to a Press article this morning the Mayorsaid this is costing us a lot of money, we deserve to know who and what.

Jerry Vitalo took the health benefits. Last year ANthony Marino took a cash payout. Jimmy Bertino has done the same for years as well. Both this blog and the MyHammonton Blog has defended the practice saying that is part of their compensation and they deserve it.

Hey get a grip, no one ever said they didn't deserve it, it's a state wide problem with a cost associated with it. The state is broke we are in bad economic times, housing is slow, oil is up, heating cost are up, so let's talk about when does it stop?Being an elected person is difficult, but the paper raises many intereting questions. many people do think you are on call all the time some do not, what about other part time appointments throughout the state. Why do Assemblymen after two years get health benefits for the rest of their life, while we all pay for this, so I ask when will it stop.Trust me it's not personal.

Vitalo against commercial development program
Permalink

I don't think there is anything that Jerry Vitalo is proposing that the majority of Hammonton would support. Why would people want Vitalo in charge of water and sewer?

Now Vitalo is also attacking the town's tax abatement program to bring new ratables to town. It is generally accepted that the program, which most towns in New Jersey have to encourge development, is a successful one. The program was started in the late 1990s and charges 20% of the taxes the first year, 40% the second and so forth until the fifth year is full taxes.

It is available and given to all commercial ratables. An example is the new NJ Manufacturers complex being built with 500 employees to work there.

If Hammonton listens to Vitalo's craziness and ends this program, new commercial ratables will go elsewhere. Without this additional tax base, our property taxes will increase. No one outside Vitalo's and the Republican "inner circle" support this. The Democrats have come out in favor of new ratables.

It is good to see Governor Corzine and Mayor DiDonato working together. Corzine is trying to get the State thru a tough budget year. He has to make a lot of the same cuts that Mayor DiDonato had to do in Hammonton. Now DiDonato is supporting the Governor and trying to look at the silver lining of a tough decision regarding tolls. While he would prefer tolls don't go up, DiDonato is showing great leadership supporting the Governor and looking at the glass to be "half full." Imagine how much progress our town could have had if they weren't fooled again the last election and voted Democrat.  It's new innovative ideas like this that have not been brought forward because Hammonton continues to vote Republican and not bring Democrats to the table.

Will the Democrats show leadership by advocating this at council?
