Council has voted to withdraw from the Department of Agriculture's Gypsy Moth Suppression program. One coucilman expressed concerns because the State was only going to be able to do single applications instead of the double we really need. So because we can't get double application which according to the States figures would take care of about 88% of the problem we decide to pass on the whole program. The single application would handle 65% of the problem but we would rather do nothing than take care of 65% of the problem. The councilman stated that individuals can hire private contractors to do the double application by themselves. So instead of doing the single application by the State and then the individuals deciding if they want the second application, we have decided to heap the entire cost on the individual. If we had at least done the single, the individual would only have to pay for a single application. We could have saved them half of their cost. But we are doing nothing.
Typical of the decision making process used by our current government. Because we can't get 88% we won't settle for 65%. We have settled for 0%. We have just done a diservice to our town and the devistation to our trees this year will be unbelievable.
