Letter from Democratic Candidate Jim Mac Lane
Permalink

I wanted to take this opportunity to talk about my candidacy for Town Council.  First, of all I want tell my wife and four children how much I appreciate their love and sacrifice as I re-enter the arena of public service.  I also I want tell my running mates, Russ Rodjinske and Michael Perrotta, how honored I am to be working with them.  This team is truly the Promise of the Future.
I have always tried to be a good public servant, whether my service was with the Hammonton Lions Club or on the Hammonton School Board.  I have always given my full commitment to every endeavor.  I will place every particle of my strength into the service of Hammonton when elected.

So what should Hammontonians expect from Democratic representation on Town Council?  We fully intend to build on the accomplishments of past administrations regardless of party.  There is an expectation of not raising taxes and the Democrats hope to continue this policy.  The real difference with having Democrats on Town Council is in how the Town is managed.

Our spending priorities will be different.  We will emphasize municipal services.  Specifically, we will place spending priority on Police, Fire and Trash Removal.  Shade Tree services, Road Improvement and Water and Sewer must also receive special consideration.  These services are the basic services of local government.  They are essentially the reason we have a Town!  These services keep us safe and keep us healthy.  They must not be sacrificed.

Gentrification and cosmetic improvements in the town are important.  They should continue.  However, those efforts have their place in the private sector.  The Hammonton Democrats feel as though property owners should have this responsibility not the municipal government.  Citizens know what is best for their own property not the Town Council.  By shifting responsibility, the municipal government saves money and respects private property rights.

Local elections are about choosing between competing sets of beliefs; campaigns are about debating these beliefs.  The Hammonton Democrats believe that by changing spending priorities that Town Council will be able to keep taxes low while still delivering high-quality services.  I am truly looking forward to debating this idea.

Campaigns are not meant to be about nasty gossip and personal attacks.  The Hammonton Democrats fully intend to run a positive campaign.  As the past object of vicious attacks and distortions, I fully support this decision.  When campaigns unite the community rather than divide it, everyone wins.

I look forward to discussing your hopes and concerns over the course of the campaign.  I invite everyone to the Hammonton Democrats Wine and Cheese Reception on May 7 at 7 pm at the Womens Civics Club.  It is free to the public. Michael, Russ and I look forward to hearing you ideas.

James MacLane

I am a republican but I would support South Jersey's Rob Andrews instead of Frank Lautenburg. Why would the Hammonton Democrats entertain a Frank Lautenburg operative? He has never set foot in Hammonton in the last twenty five years when he was much younger.

The guy is 84 years old and obviously not up to the job. The Hammonton Democrats should support the South Jersey guy, Rob Andrews. Andrews will be a friend to Hammonton.

Just a little off topic. I was at the bay festival in Somers point.  What a great event almost as good as the blueberry festival.  But what did I see the Hammonton rescue squad in full force with bikes and three ambulances.  So I asked them what was up and they said they are the ems provider for Somers point.  So I said what does that mean. I was told that the Hammonton rescue squad has a contract with the city of Somers point to provide ambulance services.  I said no way.  And then another person told me it was true.  So I said is the Hammonton fire dept. also doing this and they said no.  I asked if Somers point was getting a subscription invoice like Hammonton does and they said no.  Anyone with more information on this please post.  I can not understand how the Hammonton ambulance squad is in Somers point

It was very nice to see that the the town's CFO discussing the Mayor's budget. The CFO explained that the debt went down. The CFO also explained the sewer and water department's are very strong financially. The CFO also explained he loved the idea of paying debt down even more in the Mayor's debt reduction plan.  The Chief got up and thanked the Mayor for a new police officer.  He explained that many neighboring towns are laying off police officers.  It's all VERY good!

He also said that money should be used for what it was intended for. When he said that several Firsters on Council took a big gulp.

The Democrats kept trying to tell people debt was going up. Now we see it went down. The Dems at the town hall meeting kept silent because they knew they had been caught. The Mayor's plan to use money to pay down debt even faster is really great. The CFO explained the town is very strong financially. He also talked about how the town saved the school. Things are going great in Hammonton.

Caught??? You're weird!  Things are not going great for many who now fear that they will have to move out when their rents go up drastically since there's no more rent control.  People are still worried and wonder if Hammonton First will keep on their campaign threat of getting rid of the entire police department and more town services.

I like Jim MacLane's letter detailing the items he wants to spend more money on.  He was a great voice at the school boar for helping increase spending.  This is important to fight against the taxpayers.  Hammonton First constantly pushes for no tax increase.  The Chief has explained they have to pay for his services.

Jim, I'm definitely voting for you. You do great work for the community.  I finally spoke to your running mates- Perrota and Rodjinske.  Your party is getting stronger and are really in tune with "ALL" the residents of Hammonton.  I hope this year, people see that Hammonton needs Democrats on Town Council.  Town Council doesn't reflect "ALL" of Hammonton.  In most cases, all 7 are one in the same.

That's what I'm hearing too, Jim MacLane will bring a much needed voice on council who can actually truthly bring openness and deal with Hammonton First who have easily outwited and outsmarted the Republicans on Council.  Someone commented on how the Dems were quiet at the last Council meeting.  I saw them taking lots of notes and nodding their heads in disbelief on the Republicans ineffectiveness in informing the public on how Hammonton First is hurting Hammonton and sit there and do hardly anything when they have a chance on LIVE TV.

It is time to dump the loser Republicans.  They have done nothing for the town.

The problem with the way Hammontonians vote is that we vote for people who give a good talk but doesn't really relate to them.  Hammonton is a working class town and should have people on Council who can understand us.  For years we've been voting in rich  Republican elite or some guys who have the right last name.  I rather vote for a Joe Smith who will work hard for me and my family on Council then some person who is related to me who's only in it for themselves.  I've voted enough of my 1st and 2nd cousins.

You are absolutely correct. Hammonton people should vote for a bunch of people who barely know or care about Hammonton.

There are many Joe Smiths out there who care about Hammonton and "know" what really has been happening but they can't win with Hammonton's current mentality of blindly voting for someone because of gimmicks like Senior Discount Cards, Vegetables, political favors, patronage jobs, etc.  It is those on council NOW who don't care about Hammonton's middle class.

It's the naysayers who made sure that Council reversed its decision about bulky trash, getting rid of the police, not doing the gypsy moth spraying. Oh and made sure HF follows the law.  Even HF supporters are angry about some things HF tries to get away with.

Anthony Marino wrote on the Hammonton News website how great the new town hall is and how everyone in Hammonton should be proud of the building.  The other two clowns he is running with want to keep fighting but Anthony is trying to work for some people in Hammonton.

Does Marino still support HF plans to get rid of the Hammonton Police?  Didn't HF remove him from running the highway garage because things weren't getting done right?
