I recently saw a discussion among Town Council about re-paving Fourth Street.
As I watched this meeting, I remembered that this year in the campaign the Hammonton Democrats have emphasized the need to fix Fourth Street.
Was I watching a coincidence, an irony or an actual cause-and-effect? The answer is, simply, we will never know.
But since I am a teacher, I always look for teaching moments. At that moment, I saw government action on behalf of Hammonton because political parties are jockeying to make it an issue.
The broader lesson learned is that balanced representation on council is a win-win for the town. Each political party must bring its "A-game" if it is to compete for the voters' approval.
To provide this critical political balance, I am supporting the Democratic Team of Falcone, MacLane and Perrotta.
Hammonton First seeks to occupy all seven seats on council. Yet we all remember the lethargy and confusion when the GOP occupied every seat.
Plus, if one party controls at least five seats, then that party can borrow without any type of check on their decision.
The local GOP claims to offer a choice that is different from Hammonton First but, unfortunately, they often sound more like an echo.
The Hammonton Democrats are the best option to provide checks and balance to Town Council.
Their presence will ensure that the needs of the entire community will be addressed.
I urge all Hammontonians to support the team of Falcone, MacLane and Perrotta. Whether you feel that it's all good in Hammonton or that you have been left out, the Hammonton Dems will make the town better!
