Democrats plan to run former Republicans

Posted in News on Tuesday, March 24th, 2009 at 3:13 pm |

DebbieSarcone.jpgWilliamBrown-1.jpgThe county Democrats are running two former Republicans for state Assembly in the eighth district.

A high-ranking Democratic official confirmed that the party plans to run Debbie Sarcone and William Brown against Republicans Assemblywoman Dawn Marie Addiego and Assemblyman Scott Rudder.

The Burlington County Democratic Party will meet Thursday to formally endorse candidates.

Sarcone, an Evesham councilwoman, unsuccessfully ran in the Republican primary for the County Board of Freeholders last year.

Brown, of Mount Laurel, is a combat veteran who originally served on Republican Chris Myers veterans advisory committee when Myers unsuccessfully challenged Democrat John Adler for the third district seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Brown however switched his support to Adler and serves on the congressmans veterans advisory board.

BCT staff writer Melissa Hayes can be reached at (609) 267-5569 or at mhayes@phillyBurbs.com.

These two new Democrats from Burlington County are friends of the Hammonton Democrats. They recently attended our Jefferson-Jackson Breakfast at Rocco's Townhouse. They are part of the growing trend of Republicans making the move to the Democratic party. It is happening here in Hammonton too, and we extend our invitation to all Hammonton Republicans who feel they are no longer represented by their club and would like to join our organization.
We meet on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at the Hammonton Library at 7:30 pm. For more information you can e-mail us at info@hammontondems.org.

Jim, that woman is "very good looking" I will vote for her.

Is it ok to run someone for office just because they are good looking?

Were the two Democrats running for office in Atlantic City put on the ticket because they were good looking guys?

Is that really a good strategy when picking candidates for state assembly?

The chairman probably mispoke.

You should look at these candidates credentials.  One is a successful Council Person, the other a Navy SEAL and Veteran.

What have people like Jim Curcio done with their lives besides hold multiple government appointments while service as freeholder?  Or maybe Hammonton First and their friends who treat the town and Kessler as their personal piggy bank.

Hey I would vote for these 2 candidates but they are not in our district.

Our representatives are Chris Connors, Brian Rumpf and Leonard Connors from Ocean County.

The Atlantic County guys are Jim Whelan, John Amodeo and Bill Gormley.

The Cape and Cumberland reps are Jeff van drew and 2 others.

Do you think Jeff Van Drew made the right move voting against Governor Corzine's budget?

Why did he vote against the Corzine budget?

Saying they cannot support cutting dedicated funding for the arts, beach replenishment and promised funding for towns with energy facilities, Sen. Jeff Van Drew and Assemblymen Nelson Albano and Matthew Milam told Gov. Jon S. Corzine that they cannot vote for the current state budget.

Republicans can't figure out who their leader is Steelman or Limbaugh.  That's the very reason Hammonton First came to be was because of infighting in the Republican party.  I see the trend of many distancing themselves from the Republican Party especially after Bush.  I liked John McCain, I just felt bad for him having made the mistake of buddying up to George Bush and the failed Republican policies of the last 8 years.  Republican "leaders" like Limbaugh and Coulter destroyed McCain.

Did this woman switch parties because they offered her a job on a board? This is what I do not like about how the Democrats operate. They offer someone a job to switch parties and get there puppet politicans elected while they set up deals to steal and corrupt the system.

Switching parties to get appointed to a board is not a ringing endorement of why we should elect Democrats to office. I would delete that she was offered a job to switch parties, I still think most people do not like those kind of backroom deals.

This woman is a councilwoman in Evesham Twp and not on the Freeholder board. She is running for the Assembly. The Board seat is not involved.

Oh, I apoligize it was the other guy who was given a seat on the board. I misread the story it was the guy who was appointed to the board. It really does not make a difference, my point is that Democrats tend to offer positions and force people to change parties compromising their independent vote.

That is why the state is in the mess it is in.....too many people blindly following because their job, board appointment, etc. hang in the balance. Too many people bought and paid for in New Jersey.

But he was already very involved in veterans affairs before he made the switch, he just continued on in the same support. You are reading your own story nto something that just doesn't exist and you have no basis for your statements.
