According to C. Dan Blachford, the superintendent of the Hammonton School District, a bus carrying five students was turning left onto Valley Avenue from Central Avenue at about 7:30 a.m. when its driver, Holly Johnson, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a group of trees between the two roadways.
Blachford said none of the five students - four middle schoolers and one high schooler - was injured.
"We saw the tape of the crash and there was some jostling of kids; some kids slipped to the edge of their seats," Blachford said. "But no kids changed seats, and they were immediately back to their places after the crash."
Blachford said the Hammonton Police Department transported the students to school, where they were able to call their parents to tell them they had been in an accident.
Johnson - who Blachford said has worked for the school district for about 11 years - was transferred to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, Mainland Campus in Galloway Township, where she was treated for undisclosed injuries and released, according to hospital staff.

People from Central Ave say that the bus driver regularly speeds down Central Ave. Imagine if the road hadn't been paved how much worse this accident would have been. It's a miracle the bus didn't flip over.
Do you think the school board and administration will get rid of Joe Berenato now? The drivers are his responsibility and he can point fingers back at the board all he wants but its his department. He should bring concerns and complains straight to them and form an action plan. This has been going on for years and the only way it ends is when someone crashes a bus and is finally removed. Where are the random drug tests? He points back at the board and says they won't allow it. Someone is full of it. The board needs to overhaul that department big time.
Its a crying shame he waits until their is an accident (thankfully no children hurt) before he'll go to the board and do something. He's just a paycheck collector waiting to retire. Do all of the children in town and pay him to get the heck out now and take half the stupid bus drivers with him. All those people out there looking for a job would appreciate the paycheck.
