NJ AUTHORITIES, FEDS SAY THEY'VE BUSTED DRUG RING, USED HAMMONTON AS DISTRIBUTION POINT

Associated Press ( news@nbc40.net ) - 12/11/09 12:26 pm

HAMMONTON -- New Jersey and federal law authorities say they've broken up a network that brought marijuana and crystal meth from Mexico to southern New Jersey.

By Friday morning, 28 people had been arrested in New Jersey and Ohio.

Authorities say the drugs moved for the southern Mexico state of Jalisco to McAllen, Texas.

They say the marijuana was usually mailed from there to various people scattered around southern New Jersey, and that the meth was smuggled to Columbus, Ohio and then driven to Hammonton, N.J. to be distributed.

Authorities say the group brought about 4 to 6 pounds of meth and 100 to 150 pounds of marijuana to New Jersey weekly.

They say the drugs were sold in homes and bars or delivered to buyers.

More info as reported by the Press of Atlantic City

Hammonton Police Chief Frank Ingemi said several farm workers are among those arrested.

And one of those arrested was farm owner Lou Condo, 45, of Hammonton. Hes charged with third degree conspiracy to possess methamphetamines.

His property at 345 Columbia Road could eventually be seized, according to authorities, but Condos farm remains in his possession for now.

Ingemi said his department noticed some drug activity in town and contacted State Police, who indicated they should get involved with a federal investigation that was already in progress.

According to the FBI, the following Atlantic County residents were arrested on federal criminal complaints in the drug investigation:

_ Efrain Fregozo-Torres, 30, of Hammonton, charged with conspiracy to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetmaine.

_ Antonio Leon, 35, of Hammonton, charged with conspiracy to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetmaine.

_ Rafael Vasquez, 37, of Hammonton, charged with conspiracy to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetmaine. Vasquez also faces firearms charges.

_ Jose Vasquez, 49, of Hammonton, charged with conspiracy to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetmaine. Vasquez also faces firearms charges.

_ Javier Tijerin Gonzalez, 40, of Hammonton, charged with conspiracy to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetmaine. Gonzalez also faces firearms charges.

If convicted on conspiracy to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine, the men would face a mandatory minimum penalty of 10 years in prison -- and could be forced to pay as much as $4 million.

The following Atlantic County residents face second- and third-degree charges. If convicted, they could spend as long as 10 years in state prison:

_ Luis DeJesus, 56, of Hammonton, charged with third-degree conspiracy to distribute cocaine.

_ Rigoberto Irizarry, 52, of Hammonton, charged with third-degree conspiracy to possess methamphetamines.

_ Edwin Rosado, 29, of Hammonton, charged with third-degree conspiracy to distribute methamphetamines.

_ Madelyn Rosado, 29, of Hammonton, charged with third-degree conspiracy to distribute methamphetamines.

_ Elliot Festa, 51, of Hammonton, charged with third-degree conspiracy to distribute methamphetamines.

_ Orlando Medina, 48, of Hammonton, charged with third-degree conspiracy to distribute cocaine and methamphetamines.

_ Robert Bertino, 31, of Hammonton, charged with second-degree conspiracy to distribute methamphetamines.

_ Wilfred Reyes Jr., 39, of Hammonton, charged with third-degree conspiracy to distribute cocaine and methamphetamines.

_ Lou Condo, 45, of Hammonton, charged with third-degree conspiracy to possess methamphetamines.

_ James Romeo, 40, of Egg Harbor City, charged with second-degree conspiracy to distribute cocaine.

_ Paul Neal, 38, of Hammonton, charged with second-degree conspiracy to distribute methamphetamines.

_ Kenny Wall, 43, of Hammonton, charged with second-degree conspiracy to distribute methamphetamines.

The Hammonton Police Department had someone on the investigation on a full-time basis for most of the case's duration. Hammontons role was spearheaded by Capt. Robert Jones, Ingemi said.

I hear come Jan 1st HF wants to layoff more town employees. Does this mean more layoffs for the police dept since HF hates the police? Not only are we the Blueberry Capitol of the world now we will be considered the drug capitol of the world. This is something we should be proud of. For such a small town we are always in the news but not for anything good! Hey how does the king pin like being on unemployment? What goes around comes around! So true ah so true.

Well if the King Pin is struggling in this bad economy maybe he can sell some of his pricey artwork that he purchased downtown! Now he's getting a taste of what he did to others. Kudo's to his boss!

Any ties to the illegal Ohio License plates that many Mexicans have in town.  Who supplied them?  Was it one of the guys arrested?  Some of them worked at the former Hammonton Ford.

What is with you people with all this "Mexican" crap. You make yourselves seem like a bunch of ignorant  hillbillies. I am Mexican American. My people have been in America many, many years prior to the English, Irish, German, Poles, Italians, etc.  Most of your grandparents came over early 1900. The Mexican Americans go way back. Didn't you learn that in elementary school or were you brainwashed as you brainwashed you kids and grandkids.  Not all illegals come from "Mexico" as you all say.  Not all Mexicans are illegal. Some, unlike you or your grandparents, were born in AMERICA and were here long before Grandpop Tony sailed over in 1920.  For a town that prides itself on (some) of its Italian American heritage, you sure don't respect other people or their heritage. This is the most un-American town in America because you all still think you live in Italy, while America has given you all a very, very lucrative life.

Welcome to Hammonton...now you know it's not all good like they say. I love Mexico and Mexicans are very nice, hard working people. They have nothing in common with Hammonton people because they are not greedy, obsessed with money, controlling, heartless, uncaring, selfish and always out to destroy, hurt and criticize other people. There is good and bad in every nationality including Italians. Most Italians are very mean people. I lived in Hamm. my entire life and don't dislike Mexicans but I do hate this town and what's become of it! Oh and our schools are filled with drugs but notice they won't touch those people because they have money!

I thought the town had millions of surplus money? I hear the town hall is flithy no one is cleaning it because they had to lay off the cleaning personnel? What the hell is going on? Our town is falling apart! I guess the state will have to come in and take it over.

Umm, there were Mexicans involved Amigo!  Legal Mexicans don't need out of state license plates purchased illegally from Ohio or any other state for that matter. Only Illegal Aliens do so the Mexicans arrested were mainly Illegal Mexicans. COMPRENDE!  Stand up against Illegal Immigration and Help Defend America from Corruption from wherever it may come. Don't defend illegals, defend legal Americans.

Dude, I'm not Italian. So you're point is mute.  My people were here first- I'm part Cherokee.  I don't see any Cherokee with illegal license plates.  So yes not all illegals in Hammonton are Mexican but the ones tied to this ARE.

Curious... Massarelli's has had illegals working there for years. Every car in the parking lot has PA tags therefore these people have been living in Hammonton for years but have PA tags isn't that illegal? I'm sure they don't have car insurance either. So why is nothing being done? I thought all employers have to file I-9's for their employees. Opps forgot they are HF!

Illegal drugs is the issue our schools are full of them but our school board chooses to ignore the problem.  This is just a tip off the ice burg. We have many wealthy prominate people in this town that sold drugs years ago and never got caught because they were protected because many got a piece of the pie. This is nothing new to this town. It's just these people got caught and all the other ones didn't. I'm sure if these people had paid the right people they would have never been caught either.

What do you think of all those people who sold drugs years ago and are now considered prominate, wealthy people in our town? They aren't considered white trash but they are scum. The FBI should look into that because once a drug dealer always a drug dealer.

Hammonton needs to wake up!!!!

Look it is all who you know. Lucky for some the HPD higher ups will start making the phone calls like he did for the convicted felon who committed a gravesact offence who still walks or rides the streets to intimidate family and children and according to gunmans lawyer he would not be out without the help of a HEAVY hitter from HPD. Maybe Cheif Bob Jones had to spearhead case because someone else was known to solicit many of the arrested for his side business, not to mention according to him one of the arrested owes this higher up $9000.00. For the officer who went around telling teenagers that their mom was on crack and a pill taker let's hope he learned his lesson and what happens when he assumes but maybe that is the problem with many officers, if they assume they believe it. It all stems from the top down. But the guys that were arrested the heavy hitter in the HPD made them good enough to be an informant for the big man's personnel business.

Yes.   I read the AC Press this morning and I must say the Chief made an ass of himself.  Shut up already just because they are your friends doesn't mean they didn't do wrong.    How ignorant a statement to make and slap in the face to his own Captain and Detectives.    The Feds don't come in and do what they did if they don't have the proof to back it up.    The town as a whole is shocked by this but shut up and let the system do its job.

FYI when the feds come in and all other top agencies HPD has no involvement other than to get their picture in the paper. The feds override anything a small town does and if the feds do the investigation it's the feds that should take the credit! Dah!

He always defends criminals. Wasn't he on the board of that nut grandmother who tried to kill her drug addict boyfriend and went to jail for it in Florida not to mention that she was a drug dealer and user etc. etc. Everybody knows she had an extensive criminal record and was tipped off by you know who when the games of chance was going to bust her! Makes you wonder who is upholding the law and who is breaking the law?

He needs to go.    When you miss the point of the whole Federal investigation and make stupid statements in the paper you are like spoiled milk - expired.

Hammonton is famous for talk and no proof yet everyone knows for a fact. Frankie was willing to pay for sick leave out of his own pocket and also pay ER nurses to saty on duty and just bought a luxury SUV that he doesn't fit in to keep up with his click,so sad so sad rejection not everyone wants to be friends

The Chief in the Press said, "Even though a majority of the 28 people arrested were farm workers, Ingemi said he has no plans to increase patrols of the migrant worker population that floods the area during the blueberry harvest season."

You mean to tell me he can increase patrols by say 1 or 2 more trips to each farm each year.  This is a case of see no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil.

He doesn't have to raid or do interrogations just show his badge and police car to scare of some of the criminals.

If the police are overburdened, that's one thing but don't tell criminals that you're going to do Nothing about it.

Exactly! Hammonton First won't give more men and he won't make the ones he has work.    He only makes them work if the person arrested owes him money from his other business.

Bob Jones is no way a candidate for Chief he doesn't talk to people. We need to appoint a Chief from out of town that way all the drug dealers in Hammonton will be arrested not just the poor ones.

Any chief will be stopped by HF from arresting anyone from the in-group.  It'll just be the migrants that get busted not the people that are running the operations.

Besides, I heard the new Mayor is going to start cutting cops.  As long, HF and their friends are milking the town, who cares about crime.

He's the best and only candidate for the job.    He doesn't need to talk to people the job is not about who likes you it's about keeping our town safe....proactive policing not reactive.  Or in the current administration no action at all.

They are rich little brats that  never did an honest days work. That's all I want for Christmas, I'm not greedy!
