Hammonton is better positioned than anywhere else to weather this storm.
              -Mayor Steve DiDonato

Why all of this talk about lay-offs?  I propose with our $11 million dollar surplus that John DiDonato left us we close the budget gap and we cut taxes 5 cents.  This will prevent lay-offs and help struggling taxpayers.  The total cost would be 1.4 million.  Not even 20% of the surplus.

School Board must step up and reduce salaries.

I agree during these impossible times, a tax cut would help the average taxpayer. The only way it is possible to get any tax relief would be if the school would pass a 10% salary reduction across the board.

Most of our tax dollars go to the school so this would be the quickest way to get tax relief.  However, the teachers union would have to agree to it.  They aren't even agreeing to have the same pay next year as they doid this year in exchange for no layoffs.

Yes, but the town has an $11 million surplus or so we were told. Unless we were lied to.

With the towns 11 million in surplus and if the town employees, Mayor and Council, teachers and administrators all agree to take a 10% reduction in pay the struggling tax payers can get the tax cut we so desperately need. Personally I don't think they give a rats ass about the taxpayers they only care about themselves. That's already been proven time and time again! Maybe if they don't agree to it the Governor will do it for them!

Will "Open and Honest Government" Steve DiDonato finally admit that there was never any $11 million surplus and that the Financial Oversight Committe was a sham?

People will understand and support him.

If you reading this Steve, honest is the best policy.  Be a better man than your brother.

will it be televised or top secret like the council meetings? Will the town televise 4/1/10 meeting about town layoffs?

Get "your facts" straight !! Yes, there is an 11 million surplus, but the law states that you can use only a portion of the surplus (which the current Mayor & Council are doing).

These "blogs" only serve to incite others to voice lies and deceitful statements !! It would be such a pleasing experience for these "bloggers" to finally use true & accurate information !!

Yes, a firster comes out of hiding.  You are right, $11 million is not a surplus, it is how much is in the bank.  It is a reserve.

You forgot to mention that this is exactly what we did the past three years according to the audits.  We dug into our reserves to finance pet projects.

Of course until the day, he left office John DiDonato denied all of this and made the public think that we were generating an $11 million surplus when we were really running a deficit for three years.

Now, the problem of mismanagment has been exposed because of the cuts in state funding and the downturn in the economy.

Maybe the financial oversight comittee should give back the rocks John DiDonator gave them since we will probably be giving up our bond rating!

Excuse me? True and accurate information...Mayor and Council don't even know what those words mean. You're limited by law as to the amount of taxes you can increase but not about use of your reserves. Even if we were limited we have a double A bond rating don't we? So we can use millions of the reserves. Go blow that smoke up someone elses ass!

and keep putting up more single houses with 4 bedrooms so lots of kids move in and further overburden the school district. It's all good!

We've seen so much wasteful spending under Hammonton First.  Imagine how much less taxes we'd be paying if it wasn't for their pork projects and the downtown money pit.
