Actions by Councilman Colasurdo brings KKK to Hammonton
Permalink

The recent statements made by Councilman Rocky Colasurdo will now bring the KKK to the Town of Hammonton "while wearing the traditional white KKK robes". Read the two stories concerning this in the Hammonton News and the Atlantic City Press.

We want to hear your comments on this issue.

Can anyone say "impeachment"?   When you do more harm than good that is exactly what should happen.   Get them all out of there.

Another embarrasasment caused by Hammonton First politics.  What is their motto?  "For the People, Not the Politics."  If they are for the people, please resign.  Hammonton can't afford anymore embarrassments.

It is ridiculous and childish that a grown man can't apologize when he commits a wrong or says something that is not true. Rocky should have apologized and this would have been over with. I consider this to be worst than the false accusation. Be a Man Rocky and let your EGO aside for the good of Hammonton. Now I think it's too late to apologize. Rocky has given the KKK the publicity they truly seeked. If he doesn't apologize to the KKK, Rocky should have a full page ad in the Hammonton News, Hammonton Gazette and the Atlantic City Press for this. He should MOST DEFINITELY apologize to the public at the next town council meeting. Why should he???? Because it's the right thing to do. Enough is Enough.

Won't the Democrats feel stupid when they find out that this guy isn't even a member of the KKK?  As bad as they are the KKK is disavowing knowledge of him.  There isn't going to be a march, there never was going to be a march, and unfortunately the Democrats are going to look pretty foolish when nothing happens.

Of course, you can all rant and cheer for the KKK to come, but to me that seems sick.  Carry on....

What in the world are you talking about? The Dems haven't taken a stance or made any statements about this issue. All we have done is posted the stories on our website. We allow people to make up their own minds. It seems all of the people who have posted on blogs wish the councilman would apologize and end this whole thing.

The Democrats would be extremely glad that the KKK doesn't come to town. Who in there right mind would want them to. That is why Rocky shouldn't have made that ridiculous statement. It's conduct unbecoming an elected official. He set our town up pretty good. He should apologize to the people of Hammonton. Rocky has even made ridiculous statements like suggesting we dump our town sewage at Tuckahoe Turf Farm. What is he thinking?

False accusations are false accusations. Rocky made them. KKK or not. Rocky's lost it.

The KKK and this man are a real "organization."   The police have investigated them and they are legitimate.   This has nothing to do with Dems or Reps.   This has to do with King Rocky and his idea of intelligence.   He's not so lets just clear that up right now.  He's a con-man with a big mouth.   And this time his big mouth as gotten our Town into a real pickle.   For myself personally an apology is not enough.   He needs to step down.

The KKK isn’t coming.  They never were.  This is just political plying for votes.

What exactly would the Democrats want to say to the KKK?  Let’s see… "Gee Mr. Hater of all Italian Catholics, welcome to our town.  We know you want to kill us all.  We are really sorry for hurting your feelings."

The KKK put literature all over town the week before this happened.  They were mad the Town hired a minority contractor.  Were they possible suspects?  Of course they were!  Rocky shouldn’t apologize to them, he just tell them to go pound sand.

We should adopt a resolution stating that everything the Klan believes in disgusts us.  Let’s see.  People will know Hammonton as the town that hates the KKK.  Boy, I sure hope the Klan isn’t offended.

#1 it wasn’t the Dems or the Reps that said the KKK is coming and neither one of the parties have made any statement about the issue. The people of the Town are upset over Rocky’s stupid comment and want him to apologize to keep the KKK from holding a demonstration here. If Rocky was interested in going after possible suspects, why did he single out only one group? I’ll bet he comes up with other theories at the next council meeting to try and divert the attention away from his blunder.

You just don't get it!!!!! This isn't about the KKK! It's about the reckless comments made by councilman Colasurdo that has now brought unwanted attention to our Town and also put the citizens of our Town in jeopardy. These kind of demonstrations always come with a risk of violence. And Mr. Colasurdo is unwilling to be a man and admit his mistake. N o matter what the group is or their ideology, no one has the right to make baseless accusations like Rock did. Since he is deliberately putting the citizens of Hammonton at risk, HE SHOULD RESIGN NOW!!!!! That is the only other occurence that may prevent the demonstrations.

Unfortunately, I think you are beating a dead horse which is why the Democrats historically lose in this town.

No one in their right mind will ever apologize to Nazi-loving, racist, bigoted, animals like the KKK.  This is a free country and everyone is entitled to their opinion, but they are the lunatic fringe.  Were they potential suspects in any professional police investigation after they had just passed out their hate-filled pamphlets on the subject?  Of course, common sense says you have to look into that possibility.

Most importantly, no KKK person is coming to Hammonton.  Yes, it would be good politically for the Democrats if they did but try all you want, you can't get them here.  Why?  Because they know the good people of Hammonton won't tolerate their insanity.

The best thing to do is to focus on something that will really help the town in a positive way.  Sure, you can keep whipping this KKK horse.  But no one from Hammonton is going to take the side of the KKK versus people with KNOW they are nuts.

I'll try this one more time. The Dems have said NOTHING about this issue. We have only reported it and let the people make up their own minds. The people on the blogs and the newspapers have continued the discussion. Stop trying to blame things on the Dems. You are just as bad as Rocky making baseless accusations. Maybe we should demand an apology from you too.

Jose Diaz
Democratic Candiate for Hammonton Town Council 2006

PERSONAL STATEMENT FROM JOSE DIAZ REGARDING THE KKK

I will not tolerate anyone saying that the Hammonton Democrats would want the KKK to come to Hammonton. We are a town of with a great cultural influence and history of immigrants. Hammonton represents a great place to live, work and play with people of all ethnicities and faiths. The last thing I would personally want is to draw attention that I'm the First Latino in Hammonton's History running for Town Council to the KKK. If a group marches anytime soon, they'll surely see our campaign signs with the name DIAZ on it. The KKK isn't fond of Italians as well. We are the "Italian Capital of the U.S." Which is indeed a great tribute to the legacy of all the Italian immigrants who came here and help build our town to what is today. A great place to live, work, and play. I love this town and would be honored to serve as councilman. I would however have apologized or at least expressed my views of any misconceptions to the Citizens of Hammonton if I made a statement that could harm our town at the last council meeting. I hope the KKK never comes to Hammonton ever. It does no one any good.

Ralph Glorioso, Tom Santone and myself love this town and want what's best for Hammonton and will do what's best for Hammonton. As in our personal lives, in Town Council we will proudly respect and represent the will of all the people of Hammonton.
Today, Tomorrow...Toward the Future.

Jose, you are right.  It looks like that Republican rag, the Hammonton News, was wrong.  The guys they claimed was a KKK leader only had one other person as his latest protest over the weekend in Deerfield Township.

He did manage to get himself arrested.

He's just like Jimmy Bertino, only one friend and talking out of both sides of his mouth.

See the news, http://www.nbc10.com/news/10036989/detail.html?taf=phi.

As posted on the Republican campaign manager's blog....

ANDREW JONES Says:

COLASURDO AND BEDNARSKY. THE WINNING TEAM. I’VE KNOWN BEDNARSKY FOR QUITE SOME TIME AND HE IS THE VILLAGE IDIOT OF MILLVILLE. IT IS SO FUNNY TO SEE HOW THE POLITICIANS GET SO UPSET WHENEVER BEDNARSKY CRAWLS OUT FROM UNDER HIS ROCK. THE POLITICIANS ARE SO PATHETIC. IF THE GOOD PEOPLE OF HAMMONTON CAN HANDLE A LITTLE BIT OF ADVISE, PLEASE, PLEASE, JUST STEP BACK FROM THE WHOLE SITUATION, TAKE A SECOND LOOK, AND HAVE A BIG LAUGH. THE VILLAGE IDIOT FROM MILLVILLVE HAS THE WHOLE TOWN OF HAMMONTON UPSET. BEDNARSKY HIMSELF DOES NOT EVEN KNOW THE TRUE HISTORY OF THE KKK. HE ONLY DOES THIS STUFF BECAUSE HE WANTS ATTENTION.  I’M STILL LAUGHING. ANYONE CARE TO JOIN IN?

Has anyone stopped to think that there is more to this story than just what we have been reading.   If you read what Brian Howell said originally it seems this comment never should have left the immediate circle is was said in.   He didn't deny he said it but I think there are more people to blame for this problem.

It sounds like you are saying that if a councilman makes a comment like this to certain people, they should sweep it under the rug so the councilman can not be held accountable for his actions. I'm sure that's what h1st meant by open government, only tell the people certain things and keep the rest to themselves. I believe the solicitors comment wasn't well thought out. If someone files a police report, that becomes public record and is therefore open for the public to know.

As a lifelong Democrat, I am questioning what is going on here.  We have been endorsed by all the major unions.  We are running three strong union men.  We have a weak Republican Party as an opponent.  Why are we wasting time with this non-issue?

Let's face it.  Hammonton First is going to get the "we hate taxes, kool-aid drinking, right wing, conservative part of the vote.  In our favor, we have our traditional Democratic base which will be strong this year with the union endorsements.  The old Republicans have nothing.  A vote for them is a wasted vote.

We Democrats are the only alternative to Hammonton First.  The election will be decided on who can take the old Republican Party votes.  We need to work to take votes from the 3 Republican candidates to win.  Rich Jacobus' letter to the editor was right on target.  We need to be out there grabbing that vote to win!

I head a ridiculous statement made that our candidates are telling people don't vote for the Democratic party line.  That would be crazy!  We need our people to vote straight Democrat and we need to be out there letting the votes know that a vote for the Republican candidates is a wasted vote.  We need to be HAMMERING on Jimmy Bertino.

Bertino wasted $300K on a new trash truck.  Now the Highway Dept supervisor says it doesn't do the whole town and we need to outsource.  That loses union jobs!  IN addition, he had years to get Town Hall built and did nothing.  Now we are stuck with the building on Central & Vine after we wanted it on 11th Street!

This is simple math.  We don't get to add the Republican votes to ours to go against Hammonton First.  We need to spend the next few weeks taking the Republican votes to be ours!

VOTE STRAIGHT DEMOCRAT!  A REPUBLICAN VOTE IS A WASTED VOTE!

In this Town everyone has their own agenda it doesn't matter who gets into office.  It doesn't matter who has a position in the Town they are there for themselves or their own core group.

It's a shame that some people really believe that there are no good people who honestly want to represent the whole of Hammonton. I guess those are the ones who are only out for themselves and believe that everyone on earth is just like them.

I think it's a shame that some people think people only run for personal gain.   I know that Hose Diaz, Ralph Glorioso and Tom Santone are great guys who really care about Hammonton.  They weren't part of  the problem.  They are Hammonton's best solution to the Republican Elite and the remaining remnants of the Republican party.  Vote Democrat.  Hammonton's only hope to defeat HF.  These guys are right on topic and have shown that they can take on HF on any issue even the ones HF are covering up.

Unlike HF, I think the Republican candidates have been respectfuly and have run a good campaign.  This year though I'm voting Democrat.  We need to beat HF.  I prefer the Democrats over the Republicans in being able to take on HF in council.  Remember HF will still have the majority.  All the Republican candidates are currently on council and/or town committees.  They've had there chance.  Now it's time for Democrats to fix the problems the town faces now.

More problems for the Town of Hammonton. Now an Anti-Klan demonstration is planned for the same day the Klan is holding their demonstration in Town. The potential problems are enormous. Check the links on the Dems website to see different stories and info on this event.
