Town Council holds emergency meeting to award bids
Permalink

A notice appeared on Christmas morning in the legal classified ad section of the Atlantic City Press announcing an emergency meeting of the Hammonton Town Council to award the bid for the construction of the new Town Hall and to hold a groundbreaking ceremony. If this is an open government "For the people, not the politics", then why wasn't this done right. It should have been planned better with enough lead time for people to adjust their schedules to attend and there should have been advertisement so that the people would have known about it. It seems there was some reason to rush this through and award the bid before the New Year. Did Hammonton First fear the Republicans were going to try and stop the project? Was this just a photo opportunity to have the HF Council pictured at the ceremony? Any other thoughts?

I thought that this could have really been a great event for the public to see. I guess it was more for getting HF's photos in the papers. How can we have unity if not everyone is included. I guess we'll see if the Reps or Firsters put any Democrats in committees for 2007. Having all parties involved will truly help bring unity instead of the division our town has seen since HF came into power. There has always been some division but not as bad as this last year. I hope HF sees the errors of their ways in not including Dems especially in having input.

Why did Anthony Falcone not show up? He was not at work that day? He missed more meetings than any other councilperson this year.

Good thing Jim MacLane and his boss aren't rnning the town hall job. One screwed up project like the school is enough for Hammonton.

Let's hope this project turns out as well as the school building project, a building that we can be proud of.

Any idiot (Jim MacLane) who thinks the school bprject went well need not comment on other projects.

I know I don't need to comment to you because you haven't listened to anything I have said anyway. You are locked in on your vendetta against me and since you have nothing to prove me wrong you sink to the level of name calling. Let me know when you graduate the 6th grade.

What went wrong with the High School building???  It was on time, and on budget.  It is a building many other districts envy.  It could have never been done without the hardwork and dedication of guys like Capoferri, MacLane, Kopkowski, and Cuneo, and unfortunately those assests to our school district have been chased away, and now look what the current board is doing!!!!!!!!!

Probably the best answer to your question can be given by going to the existing School Board meeting and asking them what went wrong.  Lorretta Rehmann will probably go on for hours.  The Superintendent read a very long speech into the record last spring about the problems that her predecessors left her.

If you remember, even Loretta has admitted that the problems facing our school were not brought on by her predecessor's, it is the lack of funding by the State of New Jersey. There are laws in the state that show how funding is done , but for the last 5 years the legislators have voted to suspend those laws. It is the same challenge they are facing today, however, the previous board never had a deficit in dealing with the challenge.

Correct. It is Republicans Loretta Rehmann and Joe Giralo who destroyed out schools. All Giralo cared about was getting his wife a job and giving her bug raises.

Blame the Republicans, not the Democrats!

Jerry Vitalo laid down the law last night. He pointed out the school bus driver was talking on a cell phone illegally. The school busses are overseen by Joe Giralo. Jerry Vitalo is going to law down the rules for the other Republicans to follow. Jerry is now the leader of the party and he will make sure everyone does what he tells them to. Giralo better keep two feet in one shoe or Vitalo will smack him around!
